Parlor: Candy Boxes

Countess Mordella Lucia

The Countess welcomes you to the Parlor. Gilded, overstuffed furniture fills all corners. Mordella.. as she's known to friends, likes to live high and be the hostess to the old Miller funeral parlor. Although she lives in a home that sits atop a mountain in the blackened coal fields of Pennsylvania, she is the diamond in the rough.

Candy Boxes

are a specialty of the house. All hand made using vintage crepe paper. All have a secret hidden compartment to hold candy.

1. This table is decked out for Halloween. Flying bats on lamp shade, black cat finial, old jet beaded fringe, and Jack O'Lantern (jol) base. 2. Convoluted figures appear in the candle illuminated mirror. A black cat and jols adorn the mirror. Jack-o-lantern sits on dresser with lit candle. Flying black bats, gold moon, and black fringe adorn the dresser skirt. Another black cat and two jols hold up the green ribbon on the matching stool.

Pumpkin Pie
One freshly baked pumpkin pie sits atop the golden box to cool. However, the little veggie man cannot wait to dig in with his sharp knife. He is sporting a 'fluff' of vintage feather atop his little round pumpkin head.  Fresh cinnamon is sprinkled atop the pie. Nice flaky crust too!

14. Pumpkin Carving
My most favorite candy box. Lit candle and two spirits of the night holding jack-o-lanterns adorn the black sides. A 'topped' pumpkin sits on newspaper. It has a face drawn on it for carving. Pumpkin pulp and seeds spill out onto the paper. A carving knife is stuck into the pumpkin. Two red tipped wooden matches and orange and black candle rest on table top. White icing with black sprinkles, circles the bottom. All the ingredients for a night of fun. One of my favorite things to do on Halloween eve.
$85.00 each

15. Halloween Party Plate
An orange paper party plate with flying bats and vintage jol scrap sits atop a decorated box. Paper napkin with designs of Halloween and metal glitter silverware (fork, knife, spoon), are waiting for the goodies.

16. Marshmallow Pumpkin Candy Box
Flying bats and a vintage German jol scrap adorn this box top. Glitter bats are on the sides. A vintage candy box like this, was kept on shelves in mom and pop stores at the turn of the century. Inside the fancy papered box are rows of sugar coated marshmallow pumpkins at 2 cents each. Forget the 'peeps', I say the pumpkins are the best.
$65.00 each

17. Mr. Bones
Old mold used and vintage crepe paper. Mr. Bones sports a black top hat with orange band. His ruffled collar and hair shows you just how excentric he can be.
$55.00 each

Crushed glass and autumn leaf sculptures cover the box.

A little veggie man sits on a silver swing held up by the moon. He sports little glitter bats wings as he swings back and forth and gazes at the star filled night, while holding a cat rattle.

22. Halloween Collection
Three selves of vintage pure joy to the Halloween collector. Four lanterns with wire handles sit on the shelves and atop of this crushed glass encrusted shelf. A paper party hat with vintage crepe paper fringe sits atop the cabinet. A black cat noisemaker with metal clacker, party snapper and tambourine also adorn the shelves. A vintage Halloween scrap tops the tambourine. Happy Halloween is written on the front of the base and veggie men holding cat rattles adorn the sides. A all in one collection.
$125.00 each

23. Halloween Clock
Quarter past the witching hour shows on this grandfather clock. A jol face and ring of spiders surround the face. Flying black bat is the clock finial. Counter weight chains hold spiders and a jack-o-lantern hides inside. Copper glitter and crushed glass highlight the base.
"Witch and Goblin can be seen on a certain hour on Halloween. Watch the clock. The hands will tell when they will work their wondrous spell."
$75.00 each

24. Veggie Man's Garden
Beets are hidden underneath the soil and sand, which surrounds this candy box. It's the Veggie Man's home among the heads of cabbages and leaves, carrots, climbing gourds and squash blossoms. A wooden fence holds vines and supports the resting garden rake. A jack-o-lantern, watermelon with pulled beets sit atop the brown soil. Blackbirds sit on anything stationary, including the cornstalk with yellow ears of corn and corn hair. There is no place like this home for Veggie Men of Halloween.
$135.00 each
