Grim Reaper Animatronic
This was my first animatronic prop. It consists of a fan on a wooden frame. It's then dressed up with a black table cloth and a $2.99 skull mask, and it looks great. Heres a little tutorial on how to make something like this. The Frame and the Fan- This is the frame that holds the animatronic together. I made it out of scraps of wood and PVC pipe for the ends of the arms. In the second picture, you could see I have a small fan on the top of the frame. This is attached by sliding the base of the fan under 4 screws that are in the top of the frame.
![]() ![]() Dressing Up the Animatronic- Over the body of the frame, I took a black table cloth and safety pinned it around the frame until it looked good to me. I left the sheet loose on the top so I could put it over the animatronic's head. For the face of the Grim Reaper, I got a cheap mask that was on sale at Party City. I folded the mask back so only the front of the face would be covering the fan. I then took safety pins and put them through the mask and attached them to the cage surrounding the fan blades. I also attached the Grim Reaper's hood (the part of the tablecloth left loose) in the same way.
![]() Use- When using your animatronic, make sure you keep an eye on it just to make sure the fan doesn't overhead. This could be a fire hazard if the fan gets too hot. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to you by making this animatronic. It worked for me. If it doesn't come out good for you, or causes damage, sorry, but don't blame me!
