Cooper was a man who mocked his own magic. He'd mess tricks up on purpose in order to get a laugh, and it worked. Sometimes, he would even mess up the trick, then when the audience were laughing, he'd finish the trick properly. He also tell jokes that wouldn't usually get a laugh, but had everyone's sides splitting when he told them.
