Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)
Spreading tree up to 30m tall, with grey bark, becoming rugged; buds black. Leaves made up of many unstalked leaflets. Flowers petalless, with tufts of purple-black becoming greenish; April-May, before leaves. Fruit a 'key' with a single wing.

Common tree, found especially along the north boundary of the meadow.
