Black Currant (Ribes nigrum)
Fruit-bearing shrub. Leaves alternating, lobed, aromatic when rubbed. Flowers 5-petalled, green, purple-edged in drooping, stalked spikes; April-May. Fruit black when ripe.

Here and there on borders - a relic of past gardens.
