Silver Birch (Betula pendula)
Slender tree up to 30m tall, with papery, peeling white bark and dark flecks on trunk; young twigs hairless, with resinous dots. Leaves 'ace of spades' shape with toothed edges. Flowers are yellowish catkins; April-May, same time as leaves.

Common tree, found especially along the north boundary of the meadow.
