| Spreading tree up to 25m tall, with grey bark, smooth at first, and sticky buds. Leaves made up of 5-7 leaflets, like fingers of a hand. Flowers white, with a yellow to pink spot, 5-petalled, in conspicuous upward-pointing clusters; May. Fruit a large, warm-brown nut ('conker') in a green spiny case.
