Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)
Low/short, creeping, downy, unbranched. Leaves heart-shaped, with pointed teeth, from roots only and appearing after flowers. Flowers yellow, with narrow rays, solitary on stems with purplish scales; February-April. Fruit a white 'clock' - like Dandelion.

One or two at entrance to woodland path. One of the first flowers to appear in spring: thereafter best identified by its large leaves.
