Compact Rush (Juncus conglomeratus)
Forms clumps. Stems medium to tall, obviously ridged, leafless, with continuous pith inside. Flowerhead a small, very tight, dark brown cluster; May-July. Fruit brown, egg-shaped and indented at the top.

Common in meadow: likes damp ground.
