Gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa)
Fruit-bearing shrub with spiny, spreading stems. Leaves small, alternating, lobed. Flowers green, with their 5 purple-edged petals turned back; March-May. Fruit egg-shaped, usually hairy, green (but can be tinged red or yellow).

One plant on south border of meadow - a relic of past gardens. (Also here and there in woods.)
