Marsh Thistle (Cirsium palustre)
Short/tall, little branched, purple-tinged. Leaves dark green, long and thin, wavy-edged and spiny, cottony white beneath. Flowerheads deep red-purple, 10-15mm, in clusters with stalks spineless at the top; June-September.

Here and there in meadow: look for a thistle with dark-coloured, purple-tinged leaves.
