Tall, patch-forming, almost hairless. Leaves not in pairs. Flowers 20-30mm, bright pink-purple, petals slightly unequal. After flowers, downy seeds are scattered on the wind in huge numbers. Very common and easy to find in meadow. Known in Canada as 'fireweed' because it is often the first plant to colonise burnt ground. Spotters' score: 1 ref: p.160/1 |
