Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum)
Tall and hairless, but prickly on steams and leaves, with dead stalks and flowerheads persisting through winter. Leaves long and pointed, with white pimples - mostly in a rosette on the ground, but those up the stems being narrower and often cupped at the base. Flowers pale purple, in a conical, spiny head; July-August.

Here and there on meadow borders.
