Small tree or shrub up to 10m tall, twigs downy at first, later hairless. Leaves oval with pointed tip, usually rounded at base, hairless above, softly grey downy beneath. Flowers are stout catkins, silvery-white in bud ('pussy willow'); March-April, before leaves. Fairly common along the north boundary of the meadow. Spotters' score: 4 ref: p.26/3 |
