In the center of the square in McLeansboro is the Hamilton Co. Courthouse, designed by architect Wm. R. McCoy and built in 1938-39. The Art Deco style building shows carved stones and strong vertical lines. The first brick courthouse burned during the night of July 4, 1894.
McCoy Memorial Library on the southwest corner of the McLeansboro square. Completed in 1884, it was originally the residence of banker Aaron G. Cloud. Mr. Cloud operated a mercantile business, made loans, bought and sold gold and securities and sold real estate. The building has been on the National Register of Historic Places sine 1978. The exterior facade features Italianate, 2nd empire. Queen Ann and Eastlake architectural styles. The Library is open 11 to 5 Monday thru Friday, Saturday 8 to 5. A Genealogical Library is on the 2nd floor with hours 1 to 4 Monday through Friday.
