Hamilton High/ Cheviot Hills Digital High School Requirement Matrix

The DHS grant requires that we train staff to become proficient in six technology skills. Listed below are ways for staff to meet the DHS training requirements. You may choose from A, B, or C or any combination of trainings to gain and demonstrate the six technology skills. (TUSG meetings are required)

EMAIL

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

Obtain an email address.

Activate Connected University enrollment.

Complete email short course

Obtain a LAUSD email account.

Email a message with an attached file to fdohlen@lausd.k12.ca.us or your Technology Lead Teacher.  Include your thoughts about the role of technology in education. Attachments in WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, OR ACCESS preferred.

 

 

WORD

            PROCESSING

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

 

Activate Connected University enrollment. Complete word-processing short course.

Complete a word processing document with:

  • Graphics (clipart, digital image from web or other source) inserted
  • Title in bold as a Header and page numbers in the Footer
  • Text in Font size smaller than title.

Submit completed project (on disk or in an email attachment) to Tech Lead Teacher.

SPREADSHEET/

             DATABASE*

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

 

Activate Connected University enrollment. Complete Spreadsheet/Data-base short course.

Complete a spreadsheet document with these elements included:

  • Create a new worksheet. Enter data or information into the cells.
  • Change column/row width. Insert columns and rows. Format cells.
  • Create headings and titles in columns and rows.
  • In addition, a teacher will either:
  • Create formulas that calculate data. OR
  • Use the spreadsheet to create charts

              INTERNET*

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

 

Activate Connected University enrollment. Complete Internet short course.

Create an Internet-based lesson that will require students to:

  • Access a web browser.
  • Copy and paste information from the Internet to a Microsoft Word file.
  • Use advanced search techniques (Boolean operators).
  • Narrow and broaden searches using keywords and natural language.
  • Use at least two different search engines or a teacher provided list of web sites.
  • Properly cite the source of the information from the Internet (MLA standard).

    PRESENTATION*

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

 

Activate Connected University enrollment. Complete PowerPoint short course.

The PowerPoint presentation will incorporate the following required elements:

  • · At least six slides, each with text.
  • · Six action buttons  (to move from one slide to another, or to animate an object).
  • · Transitions from slide to slide.
  • · At least three examples of transition effects i.e. sound, fade or wipe.
  • · Use of graphics (sources correctly cited – Modern Languages Association (MLA) standard).

LESSONS: TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION*

Complete 33 hours of DHS training in TUSGs, after school and Saturday trainings.

Activate Connected University enrollment. Complete course on curriculum.

Integrate one or more technology skills into a lesson or activity for one of your classes. The focus should be on students using the technology as an integral part of a lesson, not on the technology itself.
