Arlene and Rod's Reading

Arlene and Rod's reading tastes are at the opposite end of the spectrum. If Arlene likes a book it's a guarantee Rod won't and vice-versa. Rod has a narrow range of genres that revolve around fantasy, some SciFi, and some high adventure. While Rod is a word-for-word, go back over, kind of reader, Arlene is "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" kind of reader. She reads a significant amount of books while Rod works on one. Here is a list of what they are currently reading and some of their favorite authors.

Here is what Rod is reading now:

Thanks to Wendy, Rod was turned onto Terry Goodkind. Goodkind's famous works in the world of fantasy include the massive series, The Sword of Truth. Goodkind has written 6 books in the series with the smallest being around 780-pages. He has promised his fans three more large books to finish the epic. Terry Brooks hit the fantasy world running in 1977 with his best seller, The Sword of Shannara. Brooks was immediately labeled the successor to J.R.R. Tolkein. Brooks has won many writing awards outside of the Shannara series(s). His Word series has won several awards. You can link to Terry Brooks's web site at: Terry Brooks. Brooks offers his fans e-signings. During a narrow time frame he'll sign books you order directly from his web site and ship them to you.

While relatively unknown, Stephen R. Donaldson has written a masterpiece that remains an undiscovered dark fantasy classic. Donaldson submitted this work 34 times before anyone would publish it. It's now considered a must read for the genre. You can link to Stephen R. Donaldson's unofficial web site at: The Land Copyright©1977 by Steven R. J.K. Rowling seems like she has been around forever but in reality she is a newcomer and a very successful one at that. It will be interesting to see what she rights next when the Harry Potter story comes to a close. More on J.K. Rowling. Copyright©1997 by J.K. My lone author outside the fantasy realm is Clive Cussler. His novels are based on the high adventure antics of Dirk Pitt and the rest of N.U.M.A. Always be prepared for an unlikely twist of history when it comes to Cussler. This particular book was co-authored with Paul Kemprecos. Find out more about Clive Cussler. Copyright©2003 by Sandecker RLLP, Jacket Art and Design by Lawrence Ratzkin, A G.P.Putnam's Sons©Book

And then there is the greatest fantasy author of all time. Voted as the best author of the 20th century ... period. J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and the subsequent series The Lord of the Rings. There are a multitude of websites dedicated to Tolkien but here is one you might check out. Tolkien Society Copyright©1937, 1936, and 1966 by J.R.R. Tolkien, Cover Art by Darrell K. Arlene is a library book reader and rarely purchases books to keep. She is, however, starting to collect works from Janet Evanovich.

Evanovich writes Crime Fiction whose main character is a female bounty hunter with an attitude. You can check out Evanovich's web site at: Janet Evanovich. Copyright©1994 by Janet Evanovich, Jacket illustration by James McLoughlin and Jacket Design by Corsillo/Manzone, A Scribner©Book
