Feng Shui

Feng Shui literally translates to mean "wind and water." It is the ancient Chinese discipline regarding the placement of items in their most advantageous locations. Also involved are colors which must be utilized appropriately in the effort to balance energy. The optimum goal of Feng Shui is the cancellation of negative energy by the positive energy, and this affects one's entire life, in all aspects.

Feng Shui is based on the Five Elements Theory; the pertinence of this to a person varies individually and is discovered through Chinese Astrology and the Tao principles of the ying-yang. Consisting of part art and part science, Feng Shui expresses individuality and harmony with nature by balancing energies which are both visible and invisible.

With its origin in the Han dynasty, Feng Shui rules say that where one lives and the arrangement of the rooms, doors, windows, and desks of one's house or workplace drastically affect one's health and happiness. The practice of Feng Shui in ancient China was mainly restricted to the upper class citizens. Ancient Feng Shui masters were privileged with court positions and were viewed as reputable, well-studied mandarins.
