what should i do?
If you are considering suicide...
- Tell someone about your feelings. Most people will want to
help you, but they may not realize how you feel unless you say something.
- Seek professional help. Therapists can help you see other ways
to solve your problems.
- If you've been in treatment before, know that a different treatment
may be effective for you. Find another doctor if you need to.
- Suicide is a permanent solution to a
temporary problem. Set a period of time that you will wait out before
hurting yourself: a few minutes, 24 hours, a week.

Some things to do if you are worried that a friend is
considering suicide...
- Talk with them! Mention suicide if your friend doesn't bring
it up first. Talking about suicide will not cause someone
to commit suicide.
- If someone talks to you about suicidal feelings, take them
seriously.
- Let them know that you are concerned about their well-being,
even if they don't want to talk to you right then.
- Try to understand how they feel, but don't jump to conclusions.
Listen to what they have to say.
- Be direct, open, and honest.
- Help them understand that depression can, and should be, treated.
- Don't try to handle a crisis alone--get professional help.
- Don't leave a suicidal person alone.
- If you can, remove lethal means.
- Call a crisis hotline.
- Take your friend to the emergency room.
- Don't give up after the crisis passes. Keep supporting your
friend and encourage them to stay in treatment.
