The seeds of Handgun Bravado were sown when
Arne Cherkoss (ex-Zoinks, ex-Underhand) and Colin Sears (ex-Marshes,
Dag Nasty) ran into each other in London in 1998 while both of their
former bands were on tour. A couple of years later, Colin found
himself living in Portland, OR and ran into Jesse Kimball (ex –
Automatics), a mutual acquaintance of both Colin and Arne. Jesse K.
knew that Arne and Christian Harvey (ex – Sandbox Bully, ex –
Underhand) were looking for a new drummer for their band, Underhand,
and numbers were exchanged.
Soon
thereafter, Arne, Christian, and Colin got together to see if this
line-up might work. Although Colin was a bit rusty on the drums, not
having played regularly since his last band The Marshes had broken
up, everyone realized there was some real potential with this
line-up. Arne, Christian and Colin began practicing together – first
playing Underhand songs and then writing new ones together. Soon
they realized that it was more fun to play the new songs they were
writing, and a new band was formed – Handgun Bravado.
After only four
months of playing together, Arne moved down to Eugene, OR to attend
law school. We all felt that we had something good going with
Handgun Bravado, so we took our time, giving everyone (read: Arne)
plenty of space, and practiced when and where we could. Through
persistent efforts on all of our behalves, we were able to keep
Handgun Bravado going, and have written what we all consider to be
some of the best material in each of our respective musical
careers.
Handgun Bravado
recorded a limited edition 5-song demo, which was released on Knock
Knock Records (New York), in November of 2002, and began
playing live shows in the Pacific Northwest. Handgun Bravado has
finished recording and mixing a new full length at Smegma studios in Portland. It has been mastered by Brian Baker and his buddy Steve. We expect it to be released in January 2004 on Firefly Recordings (from London, England).
