Analysis for Northfield Park
March 19, 2001

Race #1

#5 GOULD MAGIC Has only a handfull of starts this year and is improving with each one. Last week he looked like a bear in the post parade and went a big first over mile. This is a very weak maiden/claimer field and he may be rounding into enough form to get his first win.
#8 BLUE ROCK KEENA Was used hard in the first quarter last week, his first Northfield start. From there he was pushed back a bit on the final turn only to find room in the passing lane late. He finished with a bit of pace and should be better tonight. The key is getting good early position and if he finds some he will be tough.
#2 HELMS HONEY Has made 2 breaks in a row just after the start and that is a concern, however, those were on off tracks. Case returns and if the track is fast I bet Case will keep this one to task and rates as a gimmick consideration.

Race #2

#4 HACKER HANOVER Dropped to this level last week and sprinted to the front, only to tired in the final quarter after cutting pretty fast fractions. This field is much softer than that last one and he should be able to make an easier lead. If he minds his manners he will last a long time and could conclude the early double.
#3 EXCHANGE FOR CASH Has been a consistent check getter in recent weeks and from the inside figures to keep close to the pace. Last week he even closed up a bit in the passing lane for his best career finish. He may be getting a bit better with experience and if the upswing continues he could be close.
#8 HERE SHE COMES Missed last week due to a judges scratch, but prior to that had a string of very good efforts. This one has acted like she does not have the desire to win, shying away in the final 16th, however, with Case in the bike and with her history she is a good gimmick consideration despite the post.

Race #3

#5 NOBLE TOWN Has finally found a home at the 4000 claiming level. Last week B. Miller did an absolutely fantastic job holding this one together. He floated off the gate, just keeping him together on that first turn and when they hit the backside he flew from 6th to first with a very quick brush to the top. With this small field he could get away last and still make the same move to the top. From the 1/4 on last week B. Miller just kept the lines high and the bit snug and this one responded with a no urging jog in the park. This field is even softer than last weeks and though the price will be very short, they won't beat him if he keeps to pacing.
#3 QUIET LAUGHTER Is making his second start in the new barn this week after racing from off the pace and very conservatively last week. He did not make a move at all until the top of the lane when he tipped out 3 wide and closed with very good pace. Pantaleano knows this one best of all and he should be able to complete a chalky exacta tonight.
#4 CAMBAA N Has been improving since joining this stable and gets Case in the bike tonight. He has good early speed and may be in the right place at the right time tonight to finish out the gimmick.

Race #4

# 2 XCITING MISS Looks to be a nice trotting mare. She has been very good in all starts here at Northfield, last week leaving and saving all the ground behind a strong winner and having good trot in the lane with limited asking. Speed is her game and she should be able to make the lead in good shape. Without much pressure she will last a long time and is the superfecta key
#4 ESTHER RUTH Has a WICKED late kick when the track is fast. She has a problem with staying on stride and that makes her a gamble, however, if she is close at the top of the stretch and if the pace of 3/4's is fast or even honest, this one will explode by most of them.
#3 WAKESHIRE WILLWIN Was forced first over last week to a very good winner and tired as a result of the trip. She has gotten along very well with B. Miller and should be able to hit the supefecta ticket in here.
#5 PERFECTA COMER Lost McKirgan last week and made a break with the trainer up. The same driver returns and that bothers me, however, this one has a lot more ability than any of the rest in here and is still a superfecta consideration.

Race #5

#5 SCOOTIN PHOTON Dropped in class last week and responded with a two hole trip win. He should be able to get another good trip close to the pace. Case/Morgan have won a lot in a row with these type of horses and this one will be tough in here.
#2 CEMETERY RIDGE Took a week off after a very nice front end win against a tough foe, despite a killer first quarter. He will be leaving quickly tonight and may want to cut the mile again. This field is pretty soft and based on his current form this one has a big shot.
#6 KNOTEWORTHY WOLF Drops back down to the level where he last had success. B. Miller has had the most success with this one in recent years and he is up tonight. He doesn't have any early foot from outside posts so he will need some luck getting around the bad ones in here, but if he can be in striking position at 3/4's he will make the finish interesting.

Race #6

#1 SPRING PINE Is a royally bred 3 year old colt that comes to Northfield after a winter in Florida and a start in Indiana. This field has no particular standout and if this one shows any sign of his breeding and doesn't mind negotiating 4 turns he should handle these with ease.
#6 SOCKS HANOVER Was used hard 3 wide to the quarter last week to get around a breaker. The track was very deep on the inside during his race and he tired after that rough 1/4. The week before he chased a VERY tough winner (who came back to win again) in a valiant effort. There isn't much speed in this race and I'm sure Hawk has this one pointed for the front. Good chance to share.
#9 PRINCE VALIANT Often throws in a few extra steps during the course of the mile, but Case seems to be able to get him back going. He starts behind the top pick and may get a good trip as a results. Last week he made a strong surge at 3/4's to pounce on a tired leader. He could be the best of the rest.

Race #7

#2 MASTER DREAMER Was pushed back going to 3/4s last week and lost all hope. He was parked the mile the week before and still hung game for 3rd. Before that he closed well 3 wide for a very suspect driver. Tonight he looks to be very good value from the inside behind possibly a lot of speed.
#3 KB'S SKIPPY Drops to face non-winners tonight after 2 very nice efforts against much better. He has yet to win for his new connections so you know they are going for all they can get. Either on the front or from off pace this one is a threat.
#4 ARTHUR HANOVER Does well at this level and is typically good value. He was used to hard on a tiring track last week and folded going to 3/4's. He may seek an inside trip and with such cover he is dangerous at a price in the gimmicks.

Race #8

#2 ISN'T SHE PRECIOUS Has two starts under her belt this year and looks to be getting better. She chased a tough rail winner last week and still was a decent 2nd. She figures to get a good inside trip and with room at the right time will be right there.
#1 TWO DAYS ODYSSEY Was too far back last week and that hurts this one that likes to race on or near the lead. From the rail Irvine should be able to make the lead and control things. There isn't a big move horse in here and if this one is feeling good he can last a long time and make the gimmicks pay.
#7 HINKLE Has been a new horse since Wyers starting driving this one. He couldn't stay on stride to save his life and then aboiut 3 months ago Wyers got aboard and he has looked like his old self (top level trotter). He has his work cut out tonight from the 7 hole, but he still looks to be the best of the rest in here.

Race #9

#1 PACIFIC EAGLE Brushed the top by the 1/4 last week and went on to a driven but easy win on a tiring track. He should like a faster track and from the rail Case will have this one on top by the 1/4. Big shot to repeat, but no price.
#2 HEY JACK Raced gamely first over last week in his debut for Belcher. He may be able to get a 2 hole trip behind the top pick and that will make him dangerous. Possible upsetter.
#3 BIG CASH OSBORNE Has been chasing much better in recent weeks and draws well to boot. He may just follow the top 2 picks and hope for the best turning for home. Good chance to round out a 1-2-3 trifecta.

Race #10

#1 SUPER BLUE TICK Raced very well last week on a tiring track. He got passed by a VERY good horse going to 3/4's and never gave up, battling very well for 3rd against another good horse. Case has gotten the most out of this one and he opted for this one over the morning line favorite (#4). From the rail Case should keep him close and may just out drive them as he often does at the Flying Turns.
#4 DOWN RIGHT WORTHY Was completely pushed back last week when the horse on the lead came to a stop. He hasn't been in the best form as of late, but may wake up for Pantaleano tonight. There isn't much speed in here and he should be able to make the lead or 2 hole in good shape. A must use.
#7 EXECUTIVE MACHO Did not try too hard last week with the break on his card, but now can be sent hard in the final 1/4. He doesn't have early speed but the outside post doesn't hinder this strong closer. There is suspect speed in here and if this one isn't too far back turning for home he may pass them all.

Race #11

#8 RING FOR SERVICE Looks to be VERY good value tonight at 4-1 or above. Last week Hawk left the 2 hole at 3/4's to tip 3 wide around dead cover and that move cost him the race. I'm not sure what was on his mind. The week prior at this level he was totally locked in and was running them over. Walter Case should get MUCH more from this one and may get this one a lifetime mark if the track is fast.
#5 JUNKET Stillings/Williams usually send them over ready, and based on this one's last mile he may have come back to the races sound. He looks to get away mid-pack and flush cover and if Tyler makes the right decision he could be good gimmick value.
#4 SPRING NOTICE Has done better since joining the Hawk stable and was locked in last week til the top of the lane when he found room as was a decent 4th to the wire. He is one of few in here that likes to leave and may make the front in good shape. Shot to share.

Race #12

#2 ULTIMATE MESSAGE Beat the top group easily last week off the rail. He has a lot of back class and when he is right he is very stubborn on the front end. He should be able to make the top tonight without much problem and should last a long time.
#1 SOLAR ANGEL Has made steady improvement since joining the Schillaci stable. He has gone 2 big miles and now steps up to face the best on the grounds. He figures to use his early foot fromt he rail to secure a good trip and may prove he belongs at the top.
#3 BERLIN FLYER Took the cold winter months off and returns to the races off a strong qualifier. I'm not sure how hard Conger will push this one tonight and I figure him to race inside and look for room late. He may finish off the trifecta.

Race #13

#1 CADILLAC SAM Has a couple of starts under his belt after some time off. He draws the rail and gets B. Miller back tonight and should be pointed for the front or 2 hole. The value should be good at 2-1 or so and this one may prove best at the finish.
#5 CAMDEN COURT Drops back to where this one belongs after testing some good claimers. The last time he was at this level he just missed. He has a lot of speed and is leaving at the word "go". He will be hard to catch if he is on the top of his game.
#6 BIG HITTER Needed his last start and gets Sam tonight. He raced very evenly finishing with some pace against a tad bit better. Schillaci conditioned horses usually get better with several races under their belts and this one may show a lot of improvement tonight. Good gimmick value.

Race #14

#2 SANTAS LISTENING Was my top pick last week and never saw the rail. He left nicely only to be hung by a driver that "likes" the front. He was battling hard outside of that one for the first 3/4s when the outer flow started moving 3 wide. This one never quit between horses and actually continued on, eventually getting by the leader and finishing a nice 3rd. With any sort of easier mile this one starts off the superfecta.
#4 LAUNCHING PAD Went a MUCH improved mile for Case last week and just missed with a strong 3 wide move from the back. Case returns and if he learned anything he will make the finish interesting. Won't be over looked at the windows tonight.
#3 CRAZY CONUCK Was pushed back a bit at 3/4s and finished with some pace between horses once he found room. He tends to string along good efforts and may be on an upswing now. Good shot to share in here.
#5 ONE ROAD ATA TIME Drops in class tonight and looks to be a good superfecta throw in.
