Race #1 |
|
| #1 VARSITY TYPE | Moves back inside and re-unites with Case. Last week he was too far back and 4 wide on the last turn and still closed strongly. Prior to that he beat a field like this with a wire to wire performance. And the week before that he was parked the entire mile with a driver who is VERY inexperienced and still was timed in 200.1. Case will have this one on top and with one easy quarter this veteran will start the night off with a win. |
| #2 NICE N ANXIOUS | Finally gets some post relief. This one has either been too high in class or too far outside since the claim to really threaten. Pantaleano opted for this one over another and from the inside he should have the striking position to challenge. The trip will be the key, but with racing luck he could upset them all. |
#4 D GS ACURA |
Was first over the final 1/2 mile to a very tough leader and never really quit. He held his ground gamely and showed good heart. He may be able to work out a cover trip in here and off that last effort rates as a good longshot. |
Race #2 |
|
| #2 SUPER FINALE | Gets a big driver change tonight and goes back to the trainer that got the best out of him. Grismore has won with him in the past and if he minds his manners he should go right to the front and win for fun in here. Solid! |
| #4 TWO DAYS ODYSSEY | Gets some class relief tonight and should find these much more to his liking. He has nice early speed and may leave and seek the 2-hole behind the top pick. He may complete a chalky exacta. |
| #5 ON PORPOISE | Was too far back last time to challenge and did have the best trot of all others in that race. Before that he closed up a bit for 3rd in a needed start. He may be close enough to get best of the rest honors in here. |
Race #3 |
|
| #4 SAND FLYING DRAGO | Hasn't raced in the last 20 days and that is a small concern, but his last start, which was his first of his sophomore year, was VERY good. He chased a tough leader 2nd over and actually outclosed 2 nice horses that have both won since that race. This is a very weak field of maidens, and this well bred colt looks to be WAY too good for these. If he is even money that is a gift and he should win for fun. |
| #8 BLUERIDGE RAIDER | Makes his sophomore debut after a decent freshman campaign. He qualified on the front end in fine fashion and may be set for a big effort. Tab the tote. |
| #7 KINGS FORTRESS | Has been keeping much better company in all starts this year. Last week he actually closed pretty well and that was off a sick scratch. He has been having touble getting to the races, but with a start under his belt he may be better than he's been all year and could provide value for the gimmick. |
Race #4 |
|
| #2 KB'S SKIPPY | Was claimed for the 2nd time in the past month last time out. In that mile he battled first over to a decent leader and was only beaten 2 lengths. He was getting better for the previous stable and if the upswing continues for his new owners he will be tough. Throw-in Case tonight and he is the one to beat. |
| #1 MASTER DREAMER | Tried the front end last week and took pressure during the middle half and was only nipped at the wire. He may look for a trip tonight and after speed tightened last week, he should be good enough to share from the rail. A gimmick must. |
| #4 ARTHUR HANOVER | Has good early speed and should flash it tonight for his new connections. They key will be how much will he be used in the first 1/4. If he can get a good early seat without much trouble he will be a good make the finish interesting. |
| #6 JUST PLAIN PERFECT | Debuted for Belcher last week and went a big trip. He left and was parked under a strong drive the entire way. They tipped out 3 wide around him going to 3/4's and he didn't give up, but actually paced on. There is other speed inside of him and that is why I didn't pick him higher, but if he can get a spot in good shape he will be tough. |
Race #5 |
|
| #5 GLINZ RULER | Has been facing much better in recent weeks and should enjoy the class relief. Last week he was 3 wide the final turn and paced home evenly against a tough group. Ward gets along well with this trainer's stock and should be in the cover flow turning for home. Big chance to sweep them all. |
| #6 NATIVE DRAGON | Has several starts in the Grismore barn and looks to have some ability. Last week he was too far back and did not try at all. Before that he was used brutally to the top in 56.4 and tired. That first half indicates this one has a lot of speed and if Grismore uses that speed at the right time he can beat these. |
| #4 TUCSON FUN TIME | Drops to face easier tonight and gets Case. He hasn't done much since the claim and they will likely be going for all they can get. His best can share. |
Race #6 |
|
| #4 JESSIES PLEASURE | Comes from a VERY tough trotting barn that loves to send them out ready and at prices. He needed his last start and flashed very good speed over an off Meadows oval. This field is hurting for a winner and if this one makes the front they may not catch him. Good value. |
| #9 PRAY TELL | Gets Case tonight and against this type of field that may be all that is needed. He's been having trouble staying flat, but if anyone can hold him together it is Sir Walter. Shot to share from the 2nd tier. |
| #3 V ANNAS FIVE EIGHT | Has decent early foot and that may get this one ahead of others. There is absolutely no depth to the field so up front is where you want to be. |
Race #7 |
|
| #7 THE FRESHMAN | Won here Saturday night despite needing the start and having to battle first over to fast fractions. He is a talented trotter and typically faces much better. He will need a trouble free journey from out here, but the price should be worth the risk. |
| #1 YANKEE GARISON | Was first up last week and never quit. He looked beat turning for home, but dug in and actually was a winner until a horse found room and shot through. He has the break off his card now and can try a bit harder. From the rail he is a gimmick must. |
| #5 LB SPEEDO | Is a consistent sort that only knows one thing...speed! He'll be pointed for the front and how long he lasts depends upon how hard they make him work. B. Miller usually makes good decisions and as such is the best of the rest. |
Race #8 |
|
| #3 PRIMETIME HAMMER | Needed his last start and did not fire a lick. He drops to face mcuh easier tonight and expect a much more aggressive drive. He will take money late if he's going to try so watch for that. |
| #2 OLD BROOKLYN | Is a very nice race horse that is taking his time moving up. Last week he left and got an early seat only to save ground and finish evenly. Tonight he draws in and I expect a bit more from him. He can go to the front and also close, making this one a gimmick must. |
| #6 FOUR STARZZZ DREAM | Battled first over last week and held gamely in a VERY fast mile. before that he was parked the mile, and before that an easy winner. He doesn't have much early speed and should try to flush cover. If he catches live cover he can sweep them all. |
Race #9 |
|
| #7 TGTIF | Changed tactics and left last week. During that first 1/4 he was used heavily and then taken up sharply to drop in a hole. From that point he raced very evenly and had some decent trot late. If he conserves his energy for later in the mile he should have more. The flow looks like it may be good and with that live trip he can surprise. |
| #6 CHINNY CHIN CHIN | Needed his last start after a well deserved month off. He was chasing some very tough foes and doing well. Grismore took this one over another and that means he is ready for a big trip. With live cover he will be dangerous. |
| #1 FRENCH TUNE | Will be the likely post time favorite and with speed and the rail may deserve such honors. Last week he battled very nicely outside of a tough leader and didn't tire too badly. He can cut a fast 3/4s but has trouble lasting. Still a gimmick consideration. |
Race #10 |
|
| #5 CAMBAA N | Steps up again off another steller effort. He chased a VERY tough winner first over last week and never quit. He almost surged past in the last jump and just got beat. He has never been in this type of form and despite the class hike is the one to beat in here. |
| #1 DIAMOND BRIGADE | Returns to Northfield and drops a notch in class. He used to flash a lot of speed in Chicago and from the rail Tharps should be leaving tonight. This is a very soft field of 5000 claimers and he may have an edge from the rail over many others. |
| #2 COLBYS FUTURE | Also steps up in class tonight but draws in. That may be enough to make him a gimmick consideration. |
Race #11 |
|
| #6 GAME PATRICK | Is going strong right now and looks tough in the final. He is void of early speed but can really turn it on in the final 1/8th of a mile. If he is anywhere close turning for home and the pace is honest he should be able to pass these in a matter of strides. Last week he EXPLODED up the rail and drew clear in less than 1/16th of a mile. |
| #3 CONOS FUTURE | Used a big last 1/4 to get up last week in a sharp win. She has been doing much better since going on Lasix early February and from the inside should be in good striking position. If she can avoid a first over trip she may upset in here. |
| #4 IM HOOKED | Has done very well for Case who took this one over the #7 and #8. Last week he chased a tough leader and raced evenly without much urging. Beofre that he was a game first over winner. The money is down tonight and Case will give this one his all. Shot to share. |
Race #12 |
|
| #2 KICKALITTLE | Draws the rail for tonight's final and that may be his edge. Last week he was behind dead cover on the final turn and when he tipped out 3 wide B. Miller didn't ask for any trot, probably saving as much as he could for this week's final. Expect him to be on the lead and he should last a long time. |
| #3 GO GUMP GO | Cut the mile last week and was HOUNDED throughout but still managed to draw clear for an easy win. He doesn't have much gate speed and may have to work hard for that 2 hole tonight or else be first over. The trip will dictate where this one finishes, but with some racing luck he can be dangerous. |
| #5 HEY GOOD LOOK'IN | Left and was able to get the 2 hole last week. He sat behind the dueling leaders and finished evenly without much urging. He will be leaving for position once again and if he gets that position his form and heart make him a gimmick must. |
Race #13 |
|
| #1 POWER STROKE N | Gets major post relief and B. Miller should have him on the lead tonight. Last week he raced from off pace and closed evenly without much urging. This field is very soft and with one easy 1/4 they won't catch him. |
| #9 GEM MASTER | Has a couple of starts under his belt and gets a major driver change tonight. From the 2nd tier he will try to leave all he can and get a good up close trip and with room at the right time he can complete the exacta. |
| #8 MAJESTIC ARROW | Left last week and got good position. He chased a tough leader and didn't tire too badly. That leader won again last night against a much tougher field. He will need his best and some luck from out here, but still may be good enough to beat the rest of these. |
Race #14 |
|
| #5 HOT COUNTRY LADY | Won here 2nd in a row and 3rd of last 4. Case is back aboard tonight and he is getting the most out of her. She has good gate speed and will be out and searching for either the lead or 2 hole in here. Either way she is the one to beat. |
| #3 TOWNER'S LADYWINDY | Got her first win in 2 years last time out and did so with a nice front end effort. She is eligible again for this class because she was entered before that last win. She is a speedball and may have gotten brave off that last win. Chance to upset. |
| #1 SAND NOBLE WAVE | Draws the rail and should be forwardly placed tonight. She's been racing a bit better in recent weeks and if that upswing continues she is a good superfecta consideration. |
| #7 CAM LUV | Close well last time out and that was the first time she has done that in quite some time. She has no early speed, but if the leaders get into a duel, this late rusher may be rounding into form to get there. |
