Analysis for The Meadows
March 29, 2001

Race #1

# 6 BOBBY JOHN Has been a perfect two for two since becoming part of the Ricky Clapper barn. He is very adept at going first over and meets the same type of competition for the second week.
# 1 FALDO N Gains the rail and seems to have enough speed for position. He seems to be in the late mix in all his recent starts.
# 4 JD’S PLAYMATE Was going for three in a row last out but went first over and was clipped which resulted in his going off stride. Looks to be alive for a piece of this race.

Race #2

# 3 UNDER BUDGET Has one explosive burst that if timed correctly can provide this one with a win. Looks to be around 3/1 at post time.
# 5 TRIPLE T SATURN Has been driven as a closer since being claimed back in the Charlie Norris barn. He should have a good early fractions set which should permit his late kick to be effective.
# 8 ANASTASIA ART Is one game competitor who at the age of 13 still can race with these. He is much better in a closing style but might have to leave early and find a seat as Dave Palone drives him aggressively.

Race #3

# 1 STORM FORCE Drops in class, gets major post relief and seems to be poised for a huge effort. This driver, trainer and owner, Sean Girard, might not get as much attention as one might think for a horse with the morning line of 5/2. This horse is up to the occasion.
# 5 WHOLE
HEARTED
Seems to be the fastest closing speed type entered. Looks to be around 4/1 at post time.
# 3 KRISTEN’S ATTITUDE Has not done much in recent weeks but finds herself in a cheap field with a capable driver in Bill Fahy and inside post. She may add much value to the ticket.
# 8 ALIAS HANOVER Is off form from last year’s 10 win season but he is not facing much tonight. He will be driven in an aggressive way as he makes his way to the early lead. He must control the tempo to be effective.

Race #4

# 5 KEYSTONE QUAZAR Drops to a level where he has not been since his early days. He should be very brave against this lot. It is not out of the ordinary to see him on the lead and try to wire the field.
# 1 PRIX D’NORMANDY Was last week’s pick that made a break going up the backside. Looks to be one that will be passing the tiring horses in the lane.
# 3 PHOTO TAKER Has some back class, inside post position and drops a level in classification. All these things add up to one live horse.

Race #5

# 5 EICARLS RAMROD Is another one on the class drop that may find easy pickings. He should float out the gate and try it on the engine.
# 3 TOAST THE TABLE Is an one nice closing speed horse that makes his third start of the year. His dropping in class is a major plus.
# 1 DOUBLE IMAGE Gains the rail and seems to have enough speed to be in the mix through out the mile. He is one that does not win often but when he does, it pays handsomely.

Race #6

# 2 LADY COMEOVER Gets the no brainer call of the week. She is by far the fastest in here and driver Brian Sears should go to the front and never look back.
# 1 KT SASSY SELINA Is part of an entry that gains both the 1 and 2 holes. She is the only one to make the top pick taste defeat. Looks to roll to the front and let the top pick have his own way.
# 4 LEONA KOSMOS Seems to be best of the rest and her preferred style of racing is the first over route. If things go out of control, look to this one to be picking up the pieces.

Race #7

# 3 MASTER OF ILLUSION Was my top pick last out where he was entered in a race for non winners of two lifetime. His first lifetime start garnished an easy win. He returns to run with the same class tonight.
# 6 GORGEOUS MISS Had some nice late pace last week when facing the top pick. Seems able to hit the board again at nice odds.
# 7 PEE WEE SPUR Has a high percentage at hitting the board. Seems to be a little short for top honors but may add some value to the exotics.

Race #8

# 4 HADAGOAL Gets the services of Dave Palone in the bike. His most recent race shows some signs of life. Looks to be the public stick of even money.
# 3 COULTER Is one speedy trotter that runs up to the ability of his competition. His downfall his unwillingness to pass in the latter stages of a race. He is one that is best suited for a key to the under part of the exotic wagers.
# 2 LITTLE JOE Is nothing more than a hunch play at best. He has inside post and Bill Fahy in the bike. He exits the qualifier at Lebanon in good enough shape to be a threat for the show position.

Race #9

# 4 IRISH ALI Gets the long shot of the day call. This first time starter looks to have more than his recent qualifier shows. I expect him to be able to pace in around 1:59.
# 2 GOVERNOR RIDGE Is dropping in class after failing to make the final in the series won by Cameron Spur on Tuesday night. He is in shape and has some speed to be very live at the top spot.
# 5 RUBIANO HANOVER Looks to have the best shot of the remaining horses entered. His times are nice but they are suck along times as he was beaten by over 10 lengths in his last two starts.

Race #10

# 8 MR COAL PRIDE Makes his second start on lasix as he drops in class. Outside post will help in the odds department. He is best when kept in contact with the leader so expect driver Ed McNeight to leave and try to find a seat up front.
# 3 GEORGIA BABE Has been making breaks in her recent races but qualified nicely. If all things go as planned, she will be on the engine giving the top pick cover well into the lane.
# 5 MOTTS Is the true closing type speed in the race. He gains minor post relief and is facing similar types.

Race #11

# 4 WILLS POCKET Seems to be a lock and the voice of the Meadows installs him as the 9/5 morning line favorite. Great call Roger! This one was locked inside then exploded with a fury but ran out of race track. Looks to be near even money at post time.
# 1 AMITY CHIP Is one game war horse that has seen his better days. This field offers him a chance at a minor award as he gains the rail and gets Meadows top driver in Palone.
# 7 MEDICINE MAN Seems to be on the improvement trail as this 7 year old gelding might leave for position. He is better in a stalker’s role.

Race #12

# 2 FLAWLESSLY Is in great shape and trainer Jan Fread has his go to man in the bike. Brian Sears gets along with mare and should be heard from in the lane.
# 4 BIG ZEKE Has good post and seems to have some trot left in the latter stages of his recent miles. I would not omit this one from my exotics.
# 1 PATS PICK Is over rated in my estimation but his early speed and inside post make him an obvious horse to use on the under part of the exotics.

Race #13

# 1 IRISH TOOTER Is on a current roll and seems destined to be the horse to beat in this race. He is very effective in the stalker’s role and when he sees daylight, he really takes off.
# 2 LIDO’S GOAL Has been quiet of late but has the ability to race with the top pick. Looks to be around 10/1 at post time.
# 6 VEGAS
EXCALIBUR
Was a winner of two in a row and moves up the conditioned claiming ladder. Should be used on the engine as that is the only way this one knows how to compete.
# 9 MISTER SMILIN JACK Has been used in a one time brush from dead last in his last few starts. Knowing this, his having the nine hole is not much of a problem. I would be very surprised is he is put on the engine but if does, may have a shot at the top prize.
