Race #1 |
|
# 1 LEFT LANE LIZZY | Draws inside post position and seems to be perfectly placed for her preferred style of racing. She has above average gate speed and loves to take a pocket trip thereby saving herself for the lane. She has no problem using the passing lane. Driver Dave Palone returns to drive this one tonight. |
# 3 SHOW ME LOVE | Moves up in class following one nice closing win as she came from ninth to circle the field. The race was not contested with fast early fractions which indicated this ones readiness and great current form. Her last half was about 58:1 which if repeated makes her a major player. |
# 6 DANIELLE LEE | Is a pure closing speed type that broke early in the race but caught back on stride where she closed a respectable second losing by less than a length. Her last half was about 58:4 which fits nicely with this group. |
Race #2 |
|
# 4 GEORGE L B | Was the fastest one closing last week in his race though he had to come a long way in the process. He really had no chance at the win as the Miller High Life drew off and was shut down in the lane. GLB had a last quarter in 29:3, which is tops in this field for their last start. His last half was 1:00:2 which matches up nicely with any entered. |
# 2 K WS CHAMPION | Tried unsuccessfully to wire his competition last week and may have better results on a dry speed favoring track. He has finished no better than third this season but seems to be getting stronger at the end of his miles. |
# 5 R C CHARGER | Has shown some nice improvement in his last race. He left for position and rated very nicely in the pocket trip as he started from the 6 hole. When entering the lane, he did not quit trotting. He was hanging in there until the end and finished a decent third losing by less than a length. The Hochstetler barn seems to specialize in these trotters and his morning line odds of 15/1 is not a true indication of his current ability. |
Race #3 |
|
# 6 GOLDEN TIP | Has been knocking at the door in her two most recent races. I looked hard to find one that may have a chance against her and found none. Looks to be over the top by the half mile pole on her way to hold off all challengers. |
# 3 HI HEELED N HUNTIN | Is the shipper from Northville Downs in Michigan who has two decent lines in races where she won in 2:03 in her most recent start there. She was entered in the final leg of a late closing series where she was supported by odds of 8/1. She made an early break and finished last. She meets a field of lesser talented individuals where her speed should hold sway. |
# 5 LADYBUG HANOVER | Raced nicely in last weeks contest. She appears to be over what ailed her two weeks ago. She is a closing type and is at the mercy of the early pace. She is by Western Hanover which indicates that she is bred for early speed though connections have used her strictly as a closer. I would not be surprised if one of these days, driver/trainer JC Miller Jr. puts her on the engine. |
# 7 LUV YA CIGAR | Finally showed her closing talents in last weeks contest. She retains driver Brian Sears who had this one rolling in the lane to score at 5/1. She fits well with these and may be considered armed and dangerous. |
Race #4 |
|
# 5 FOX VALLEY HOLLY | Has won two and four races back in this classification. She is returning to the 3 claiming ranks after an attempt with the 5 claimers. She has hit the board 5 out of 8 starts this year and seems ready to leave for position and play the stalkers role. |
# 9 MEGAN MONROE | Returns to the races with a short rest as she raced on Tuesday night, a race in which she failed to fire. The previous week had her making a late move just in time to get the win in a photo finish. She did have more in the tank and could of won as she pleased if the race was at a longer distance. I could not find anything physically wrong in her during last Tuesdays race and have to chalk it up to one of those filly and mare things that cause many trainers to scratch their heads. Hopefully she feels like trying tonight. |
# 1 BOCUSE FLASH | Draws the rail after two uneventful qualifiers. I am relying on her previous years statistics in which she won 11 times from 42 starts mostly in the California circuit. Having Brian Sears aboard might indicate this ones readiness to race. |
Race #5 |
|
# 3 HAYLATROSS | Is simply on top of her game presently as she has won her last three in an easy way. She loves to get out slow and grind out her last half mile while wearing down the competition. She is one stronger mover and is listed as dropping in class as she exits the 12.5 K Claiming ranks to be going against Fillies and Mares not listed preferred. She can handle any obstacle presented by these entrants. |
# 2 HARE ROLLERS | Was my top pick last week and set her own fractions on the front end only to come up a bit short in the lane to Jenelle Mindale who sat in the pocket. Having an inside post can only help her chances. She prefers to race up front and with the track carrying the early speed types this week, she appears a lock to hit the board. |
# 5 GO CATHY GO | Is another one dropping from the claiming ranks to face the not listed preferred. She is one that can race on the engine, in a pocket or close from mid pack to be effective. She may of seen her better days but still carries a nice brush into the lane. |
Race #6 |
|
# 4 ANNE BONNY | Dave Palone was interviewed on the LRN last week about how he intended to drive this one. He indicated that the only way to beat Foxy Jazz was to gain the pocket trip and try to out sprint her to the wire. He did exactly that in last weeks race. It appears Dave found a way to get this one home. Look for a similar trip tonight with the same results. |
# 5 FOXY JAZZ | Should try for the early lead and back off the half as much as possible. He might be hard pressed to out sprint the top pick again this week. |
# 1 WHITESVILLE CROWN | Is part of a two horse entry with Ballinea N which offers a two for one chance at the trifecta. Either of these two has a decent shot for the show position. |
Race #7 |
|
# 4 COSMIC EXPRESS | Makes her first start of the three year old campaign. She had two great qualifiers and races this year with the help of lasix. She had excellent speed as a two year old which she seemed to improve this year. She appeared to have plenty in the tank in her most recent qualifier and looms large over these. |
# 7 YANKEE JIFFEY | Makes her third start since arriving from the Big M. She is a fast one but failed to score in the class a little higher than this. She may need inside post to have a real chance at the top prize. |
# 1 ELECTRA MINDALE | Races better on the fast track than the off going. She should get away no worse than third and have one nice ground saving trip. If the top pick holds up, she can carry the inside where she may find clearance in the passing lane. |
Race #8 |
|
# 3 SUPER EARL | Drops from the 25 K claiming ranks to the conditions with an optional tag of 14 K. She gets in based on earnings and does not risk being lost via the claim box. She is one pure closing speed type that should benefit greatly from the drop in class. |
# 7 HIDDEN LEGACY | Drops down from the open class to this cheap conditioned level. Trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. elects Dave Palone to guide this one who is making her fourth start of the season. She has enough speed to compete with the top pick though I feel she may need a few more weeks to achieve top conditioning. |
# 6 PREAMBLE HANOVER | Gets the nod over Fordemisional based on last weeks effort. She came from well out of it, force the issue in the lane and tired from her efforts. Connections raised her in class due to her fifth place check. She may be used a little later and benefit with cover from the top pick. |
Race #9 |
|
# 6 CAFEUCCINO |
Roger Hammer sends out his fast and effective distaff pacer tonight. She is one powerful mare and has bankrolled over $445,000 to date. She has 4 wins from 8 starts and meets the Meadows best in competition. She is faster than most and should be driven on the early lead. Roger will park whoever tries for the early lead. |
# 3 AMAZON SAHBRA | Has been in the late mix in her last three starts and given post 3, should be well placed in the lane. She has defeated this class only once this season but has 1 second and 3 thirds. She appears to be a good one to key in the under part of the exotics. |
# 1 HAWERA N | Has been the publics choice in each of her last five starts, all at this level. She has won only once. I rarely recommend betting on one with a 20% winning record as a favorite but given her post position, appears to be very live for the exotics. |
Race #10 |
|
# 3 OVER ASHLEY | Has two wins, one second and one third from 8 starts this season. She drops down from the open level and meets trotters with less speed. This one rarely leaves the gate well but does have one nice late kick. She needs to get away no worse than 5th to have her best shot at the win. This Overcomer mare did win in 1:58:3 this season which is by far tops in this field. |
# 1 RAMNIFICANCE |
Gains major post relief and seems to like to be placed in a forward racing position. Ed McNeight Jr. has a way with these early speed type trotters starting from the rail. |
# 6 SUPER SIXTY | Came home strong in his last race out. He missed two starts leaving me to believe that he might come up short. He is fast enough with these but; is he in good enough condition, looms as the question to be answered in the race. |
Race #11 |
|
# 4 NOBLE WALTZER | Gets the nod in a very competitive race. This looks to be the best race on the card. Any of these has a legitimate chance at the top prize. NW seems to be very live given his post relief and win two races back which was timed in 1:54:4. She caught an off track last week which may of hinder her chances. Look for her to rebound with a first over clearing move past the half. |
# 1 MAGIC EXPERIENCE | Drops in class from the Preferred Handicap. She is very strong when racing on the engine. Dave Palone elects to drive this one over Jenelle Mindale (as he did last week and lost with Hare Hare). I hope Dave has made the correct decision this week. I may be wrong in my pick, but I am consistent in following Daves indication of the stronger entry. |
# 3 SHY POCKET | Returns home after getting in some practice at Northfield. She beat up on the lessors two and three back and put in a decent effort in the Open I Handicap. She meets lesser tonight and may be a bit more on the brave side with those recent accomplishments. |
Race #12 |
|
# 9 RPS | Returns to the level where he was claimed and also the level which he had his last two wins. Bill Fahy has the hands to get this one rolling. Look for a first over move past the 3/8 pole as this one is a grinder and can take air going the first over route. |
# 3 HAPPY EVERGREEN | Has shown some new vigor in his last two starts which were wins against lesser. He moves up the claiming ladder and gains excellent post. He has early speed for position and should be in the right place and at the right time in the lane. |
# 4 CDS THELMA ROSE | Came home flying last out and seemed to be not even winded when returning to the winners circle (minus the race bike). Charlie Norris got into this one about 40 feet past the wire. Brian Zendts bike was a wreck and had to be removed before heading to the winners circle. I over heard Brian in a calm voice say that Charlie got into me after the race to a man who asked him about the bike. This young driver is more mature for his age than any driver I recall knowing. Nothing gets him rattled during or after the race. |
Race #13 |
|
# 1 BESSIE B | Gains major post relief where she can leave to the front and race with more energy than last week. She is making her third start and should be stronger on a speed favoring dry track. Hope the weatherman is correct for Fridays forecast. |
# 6 ONE OF THE KIDS | Is very effective closing on either the fast or dry surface. She just missed two and three back and looms as the one that the public will make the favorite. One thing is for sure, if the Meadows offers two superfecta races a night, they usually have one entrant from the Goldberg barn. |
# 2 LAUGHING LADY |
Broke before the start last week, recovered to catch the field and came late with some nice acceleration to garner the place position. This one is in top shape and will be heard from during the stretch call. |
# 9 SHES MY NIECE | Is one of those suck along horses with above average closing speed. I added her in an attempt to add some value to the superfecta ticket. She may find a way given that she matches up with about half of this field in speed and may work out a ground saving position. |
