Race #1 |
|
| #2 STOWBRIDGE HANOVER | Gets post relief and his regular driver back. He has been racing very well for Tharps, who has done VERY well as of late at Northfield, proving he is a real threat. He can flash speed and from the inside should never be too far back. He should be very good value in here. |
| #3 SUN GLARE | Had the 8-hole and the trainer up last week. This week we get Case back and move inside. Both of these things give this one that had rarely missed a check a good shot to share. |
| #5 REMO | Looked MUCH better last week in his 2nd start over the oval battling first over. He drops one notch tonight and if the improvement continues he will be right there at the end. |
Race #2 |
|
| #2 DE LEON | Was used off the gate for position and then had to pull first over to a tough leader. He still held VERY game in a quick mile. From the 2-hole he should be able to get a much easier trip and only needs a little luck to get the win in here. |
| #4 LANGOLIER | Was too far back last week to threaten. The week before he closed very well with a lot of pace in the lane to get up for a nice 2nd. Tharps is on a roll and his horses usually have a pretty good price. He should be able to get some cover in here and be in position turning for home. Good value underneath. |
| #3 GOLDENSHOT KILLEAN | Stayed covered last week in the final 1/4 and never really fired. The week before he went an ultra game first over mile and was actually still coming at the wire in his best effort in a long time. He draws in tonight and starts between 2 live horses. The price will be good and he does deserve a look. |
Race #3 |
|
| #1 GOLDEN CZAR Z | If he hadn't missed last week I would proclaim him one of the best bets of the year. The week off is a concern, but this one has been on the "gonna win real soon" list for a month. His 2 Meadows starts were a bit dull, but that was without the real Belcher and drivers that don't know the horse. Going back to Northfield miles he was a no try out of the 8-hole flying late, a huge parked the mile still coming at the lane, a 2 hole behind a killer winner-easy 2nd, and a strong brush to 3/4's for an easy win. He has a ton of speed and if he is close to right he wires these for fun! |
| #2 DARESBURY LANE N | Has good gate speed and gets Case. He may be able to sit behind the top pick and follow along for 2nd. Could complete the exacta. |
| #3 FOUR STARZZZ FELLA | Returns to Northfield where he has had a lot of success. Last week he came first over under a drive at Hoosier and was game the entire long stretch. B. Miller knows this one best, so a lot of those Hoosier miles can just be ignored. He is a top level pacer and if there is a duel in here he will be flying late. |
Race #4 |
|
| #4 RACEWAY MALL | Makes his 2nd start for Sam and Jodi and that often leads to a win. Last week this one got away very poorly from the 2nd tier and was never in contention. There is a ton of dedicated speed in here and that may lead to a very fast pace. I expect a much better mile tonight from this one and if he's ready he can get the first of many wins at Northfield. Tab the tote. |
| #5 ORZO | He should benefit from a fast pace tonight and use his good late kick to come flying late. A gimmick must in here. |
| #1 N THE OTHER | Draws the rail tonight after being parked the mile from the outside. He likes to turn it on late and could be in the right place at the right time. Miller/Lee often do well on Saturday night and it looks like this may be another good Saturday. |
| #2 STIR IT UP | Young Mr. Reynolds is proving to be a bit better than many of the "regulars" and is a good superfecta throw-in from the inside. |
Race #5 |
|
| #5 JATE PROPELLED | Debuts for the Hawk stable tonight and that is a BIG chance. The former trainer/driver was fast approaching 70 years old and just like any professional sport that is a bit past prime. He has a nice late kick and is suited for the Hawk stable (old class). If they have him figured out he will get up in here. |
| #4 ALL QUACKED UP | Came back to the races more than ready after a 4 month layoff. He has good gate speed and should get the lead or an early spot in good shape. Schillaci's horses are all going well and this one is a gimmick must. |
| #7 KENTUCKY TROSS | Has been on a form spree over the past few months, but often finds himself way outside. He will need a little luck from here, but his form gives him an edge over a few others for best of the rest honors. |
Race #6 |
|
| #7 MISS GIGI D | Takes the trotting hobbles off for tonight's effort and gets Pius in the bike. This horse has a lot of ability but tends to make breaks. Her latest qualifier shows her ability. All she needs is a flat mile and an honest pace and she can fly by them in the final 3/8's. |
| #4 HOME FIRES BURNIN | Has a string of consistent finishes at this level. B. Miller opts off for another, but Pantaleano is no stranger to this one or trotters. He rarely makes breaks and is a gimmick must. |
| #5 CARTRIDGE T | Has been steadily improving for Millette who knows how to get trotters going. Two weeks back he made a strong move for Case going to 3/4's only to tire late. Last week he raced inside and was even in the lane. Case is back up tonight and if this one uses that move at the right time he can be right there. |
Race #7 |
|
| #1 WORTHY SUITOR | Comes back to Northfield after trying the front end at Hoosier. He is a top level pacer and faces a middle level group. If he is 1/2 the horse he has been he will wire these for fun. Expect 3-5 tonight. |
| #2 DONVEN SCOOTER | Is a very nice pacer that went a big mile last week. He was leaving hard only to be grabbed when Hawk's horse took up in front of him. Miller had to settle this one down and then come flying from far back to brush by the 1/4. He went on for a driven but easy win. Tonight's test is a bit tougher, but he has been higher before and should find these to his liking. With a 2-hole he will complete the exacta. |
| #8 QUEENS FRECK | Circled the field last week and almost won against a better field. The post will make the price, but he merits a serious look for underneath play. |
Race #8 |
|
| #1 FOOLISH COURAGE | Has been runner-up 5 straight times. Last week he was struggling going to 3/4's under some urging and was not gaining, but then in the lane he found that late kick that he is famous for and came charging up for a nice 2nd. He may flash speed tonight and try to wire this field. He may finally get that picture taken. |
| #2 JUAREZ HANOVER | Dropped to this level last week and responded with a nice 2nd and a lot of action on the board. He is a very nice horse when sound and may have gotten braver with that effort last week. From the inside he needs a look. Tab the tote. |
| #3 MATT DILLON | Beat this level last week and has done only good things since joining the Belcher barn. A gimmick must. |
Race #9 |
|
| #4 SKYWAY FALCON | Went to the Big M last week and faced some of their best in a sub-1.50 mile. He has no early speed, but can really go late. The small field will help this one with position and he may be decent value. |
| #6 MARLOW HANOVER | This speedster will be pointed for the front tonight and should have little trouble getting there. The question is, will he be far enough ahead of the top pick to hold him off. If he is, he can win, if not, he should be 2nd. |
| #3 UPHILL BATTLE | Chased a fast mile and tough foe last week, but still held a nice 2nd. The trip may not be as easy, but he still may be the best of the rest. |
Race #10 |
|
| #6 STAR PROSPECT | Is finally turing it around for Virgil. Last week he was parked the mile and just kept coming on. The week before he circled the field with a powerful 3-wide move. This will be a much stiffer test for him, but I'm guess he can do well at this level too. |
| #2 TED THE KID | Followed a tough winner last week, after having no room the week before. He should be good at this level and from the inside is a gimmick must. |
| #3 MITEY SAM | Drops back down to a better level. Hawk's stable has been good all year and this one has ability. He has to avoid a first over trip, but can be dangerous. |
