Analysis for Northfield Park
April 18, 2001

Race #1

#1 ARMBRO OWN Obviously has major problems as he tumbles down to the bottom level claimers at Northfield, but has looked decent in recent weeks and tonight gets Case over Hawk. Belcher, along with other top Ohio trainers, have been in the habit of dropping horses like this and winning so I'm not too concerned. This is a very soft field and he should make an easy lead and go on to an easy victory. No price, but tough to beat.
#3 EMERALDS GOLD Has sevearl needed starts under his belt and appears to be getting better. Last time out he saved ground and finished evenly in a fast mile witha decent last quarter. This barn typically races them into form and against this bunch he may be the best of the rest.
#2 KD'S BRET Was privately purchased after his last mile. Pantaleano was not able to get this one right in all starts after he claimed him in late Januaray. Weller may be able to do more with this one. When he is right he is a 4000 claimer and does well at that level to boot. This trainer usually puts a few dollars down when he thinks he has a chance so tab the tote.

Race #2

#3 SCOTTY HILL Makes his sophomore debut tonight after a decent freshman campaign that saw this one bank over 20K. He has some very nice fair miles on his card from last year and the qualifier wasn't too bad. If this one is ready he can win at first asking.
#2 CASH INQUIRY Needed her last start and raced well overland with a lesser driver. Tonight she moves in and catches B. Miller. Her freshman campaign was encouraging as she hit the board in 8 of 12. This is a field begging for a winner and she may be the one. She may prove the upsetter.
#9 LO AND BEHOLD Was forced first over the final 5/8's last time out and never quit against a strong wire-to-wire winner. That was this one's first start as a 3 year old and he should be better tonight. J. Smith is a wiz with trotters and the breeding indicates this one has ability. From the 2nd tier he should stay close and figures to be right there.

Race #3

#5 TIMBALIER Needed his last start after taking the winter months off. That start was against a notch tougher than these and it was a pretty good effort despite the outside post. Lark/Wyers have teamed up with winners in the past and against this dismal field he could be the best value in here.
#1 LATHER HANOVER Comes to the "Turns" from The Meadows where he was keeping similar company. Sherman is famous for shipping from there to Ohio and winning. Add to that speed, the rail and Mr. Case and you have a horse that merits serious respect. A must use in any gimmick combination.
#4 KISSIMMEES ANGEL Is 2nd time Lasix tonight and has shown some ability in his short racing career. T. Loy does the driving and anyone that watched him last night early in the card knows that may be risky. However, there are 3 horses in here that look like they need a lot of help, so this one doesn't have to do much to get a piece.

Race #4

#1 ULTERIOR MOTIVE Was first over with Hall last time out and that hurt him. He gets Case back in the bike and he has done wonder with this horse taking nearly 6 seconds off his lifetime mark. He draws the rail where he can use his speed for position or possibly the lead. All he needs is a pressure free 1/4 and he will be tough to catch.
#8 SCOTT'S TROUBLE Did not fire a shot last week from the outside post. He gets Pantaleano tonight and he knows this one best of all. He can really turn it on late and has been facing better than these for most of the year. The post will make the price, but if the pace is a fast one and this one has any sort of racing luck he will be right there at the end and deserves a serious look as a gimmick longshot.
#9 FUN BUNCH Looked very good the first time over the track, battling first over and clearing just after 3/4's only to be beaten by two horses that followed his move. He has some back class to him, and from the 2nd tier with B. Miller he should have the position to challenge. His best makes him dangerous.
#2 TUCSON FUN TIME Chased better claimers last time out and didn't try out of the 8 hole. His race before was against a tough foe and he put in a nice follow-along 2nd. He may use similar tactics tonight and is a good superfecta throw-in.

Race #5

#1 SAND SEA VOYAGER Saved ground last time out and raced very evenly. The time before that she tried to wire them off the rail and was only beaten by a horse that has done well at higher levels since. This is a very beatable field and Mr. Guptill will probably recognize that and go for the front. If he doesn't get too carried away or pressured, he can get this one home a winner at a nice price.
#2 SHINING CAM Has done much better since the addition of Lasix and tongith gets Case back and draws in. This field is simply awful and she should have the position to challenge. A gimmick must.
#3 GAME MARIE Gets a MAJOR driver change tonight. She has yet to hit the board this year and that is more than a concern, however, Ward will surely wake this one up and as such deserves a look at a big price.

Race #6

#2 LB SPEEDO Was the favorite last time out against a horse that has come back to win again. He needs the lead to do his best and from the inside he should be able to get it without much trouble. If he makes that lead and no one pressures him he will be difficult to catch.
#5 SPEEDY TORCH Drops back to a better level. Last time out he found the pace too much and didn't fire a shot. Before that he was a very impressive front end winner against a much better field. Millette knows how to handle trotters and this one loves to win races. He will need to use his late kick tonight as there is other speed in here, but he's done it before and may be up to the challenge if there is a duel up front.
#1 TRU BAR'S MESSAGE Failed first over last time out, but gets Case back tonight. He has the rail and should be able to stay close to the pace without much lost ground. A must in any gimmick play.

Race #7

#9 NUKES COMMODITY Makes his sophomore debut after a lightly raced freshman campaign. He qualified well pacing his final 1/2 in 59.1. The starts from the 2nd tier and should be close to the eary pace. This is a tough field of maidens to read and I'll give this one a slight edge if he's ready.
#3 MR SANDSTORM Chased a fast qualifier and was no match. He is a 3 year old colt that debuts for B. Miller tonight and may be ready. Tab the tote.
#4 C A SUNDAY SUPRISE Has experience on his side tonight and also has speed to get ahead of many of these. He needed his last start after missing a week and raced evenly while saving ground. He added Lasix about 5 races ago and has done much better since. He's had over 20 chances to win here at Northfield and has yet to do so, but still must be given a look for gimmicks.

Race #8

#5 WILLMANIA Made the front last time out and almost lasted in a start that he probably needed. He should be better tonight and if he can make the lead in good shape and get far enough ahead of his main rival he can win at a decent price.
#6 ONE FINAL TIME Draws poorly this week and will need his best. Last week he came first over to the top pick and under a drive wore him down to edge clear nearing the wire. He has been on a form spree for the past few months and fits against these like a glove. The post should help the price and he has a big shot with some luck.
#3 KICKLITTLE Was over looked at the windows last time out and made them pay. He was a terror against softer earlier and than started to tail off. That form was re-found last time out when he came winging home with a lot of trot from far back to nail 3rd. He draws well tonight and should be closer. A big shot to share.

Race #9

#1 SANDY JOHN Gets some class relief despite going up in purse money. He tried the front last time out and just got beat after setting a very fast pace. The time before he saved ground and finished full of pace one free to just miss. He is coming back into the form that saw him pick up 2 wins earlier and may be set to get his picture taken.
#4 WILD AMERICA Has been facing brutal trips in recent starts and hansn't missed by much. Tonight he gets Case and that will surely help. He has a lot of raw speed and is still learning how to go. If he can catch some cover or make a brush to the front he will be one tough horse.
#2 HOLD THIS Has been saving ground in recent starts and from the 2-hole tonight should have position to once again do the same. He had good pace under a drive last time out to finish 3rd, and it looks like he may hit the board again.

Race #10

#7 TICKLE MY ELMO Makes his sophomore debut tonight after adding the hobbles (something I love on trotters). His last qualifier was very encouraging over an off oval and he comes from a very good trotting barn. The price will be good and with some luck he could upset in here. Tab the tote.
#3 STRIKER ACTION Gets a BIG driver change tonight. He was no match for that last winner and never fired a shot. Before that he was a nice following 2nd against similar. He has decent early speed and with Case up for the first time I expect him to use it. Looks good for gimmick play.
#1 JACKS DREAM GIRL Chased that same standout winner last week and didn't try as a result. He also had a break on his card, but can be a bit more aggressive this week. From the rail he should be able to stay close and get a piece.

Race #11

#2 B G SCOOTER Went another big mile last week, his first try for B. Miller. The horse that won that race got the jump on him and tonight draws the extreme outside. This one should turn the tables on that one and get ahead of him. 2-1 would be a great price on this one, though I expect even money or below.
#8 J C COCHRAN Has done everything asked of him since coming to the Schillaci stable from Dover. He will have to do his best from the 8-hole tonight, but based on his form and ability he merits serious consideration.
#3 BODACIOUS REBEL Was pushed back badly going to 3/4's last week and that hurt him. He looks like he can follow and share and in this field from the inside that may be enough to get a him minor spoils.

Race #12

#4 DR BERNIE Was a terror at the top level in the months of December and January and then started to tail off. He took a month off and has come back to the races dull. He does get some class relief tonight and his best race was his most recent, so maybe he is coming around. If he's 80% he can beat these with his strong first over move. I'm hoping he is right.
#5 TGTIF Is a very talented trotter that covers a lot of ground with Mr. McKirgan doing the steering. Last week he left (why I'm not sure) and was parked wide the turn only to settle in where he would have been had he taken off the gate. Fromt here he came out 2nd over and finished VERY well for an easy 2nd against a standout winner. There is a void of speed in here and the way this one has raced in recent weeks I expect him to be pointed to the front. If he gets there he may be tough to catch. A talented horse that only needs some luck and a decent drive to be right there.
#2 EXECUTIVE MACHO Made a strong move to 3/4's last week and beat an easier field. Case returns and this one should be close from the 2-hole. Big shot to share.

Race #13

#5 DUMPY BEACH Chased a VERY good winner last time out, making only his 2nd start for John Lee. He has a big move in the 2nd half and can cover a lot of ground while making that move. He needs some live cover to bring him up, but if he's any where close turning for home he has a big shot.
#7 RACKEM'S ROAD Needed his last start and closed with a TON of pace for 2nd in that race. This one flashed a ton of ability in the final 1/4 in most starts last year and only needs position to catch them all. Schillaci's barn has been awesome in recent months and the post will enhance the price. VERY dangerous with striking postion at 3/4's.
#3 COUNTRY BANKER Has a couple of starts under his belt and should be much fitter. He has some back class and deserves a look at a price in here.

Race #14

#3 ASGOODAS
ITGETS
Gets some serious class relief tonight and has been hinting for the past few weeks since being claimed in early March. There isn't much early foot in this race and Ward is a very aggressive driver that likes to leave. If he makes the top in good shape he will be tough to catch and should be good value.
#1 CADILLAC SAM Was very good mid-year last year and then really went south in the latter months. He came back to the races very dull this year, but has looked much better in his last 2 starts. He draws the rail tonight and if that upswing continues he will be very dangerous.
#9 FORSBERG Needed his last start and had a driver that doesn't have much experience. Tonight we add Case and drop in class. He has a lot of back ability and will is a gimmick must in here.
#4 MINION TROUBLES The trainer drove last time out and he didn't have much chance as a results. This week Mr. Pantaleano catches the drive and he make this one a good superfecta throw-in.
