Analysis for The Meadows
April 26, 2001

Race #1

# 3 CLEVELAND Makes second start of the year from a great inside post. He managed to close about 6 lengths in the last half where the race came home in 59:2 meaning that this one put in a last half of around 58:2. Anywhere near that effort puts this one on top. Please note that this one did compete in PA sire action as a two and three year old. This one is considered a sleeper and gets my long shot of the day call.
# 1 LITTLE JOE Gains the all important rail post tonight and seems to have the early speed to gain a perfect racing position. Last time out saw this one race even with a nice one in Crystal VW.
# 9 FRISKY FELLA Is the morning line favorite and seems to be the one with the most back class but the nine hole and his recent liking to make breaks lessens his selection value. In his last qualifier he got the pluperfect trip behind Madison Tuition who raced well on Tuesday’s night last race. This one might wire the field but I feel the odds will be too low and the risks too high.

Race #2

# 1 STRIKE FAST Ships up and makes first start of the three year old campaign. Trainer/driver Ray Paver seems to have this one ready at first asking. His last two qualifiers in which he finished the mile strong. Having the rail should permit this one to secure great racing position. He is facing a pretty weak field and should have his own way.
# 7 ROCKANDRHODANCE The Ross stable sends out a decent trotter in this one. He faced some nice company on the Ohio fair circuit as a two year old. She is a filly facing an up hill battle but looks to have odds that merit her risk.
# 8 STRIKING BID Hails from the Mike Medors barn who has a most of his stable in fine form. His outside post will hurt but looking at the competition, should be able to hit the board. He is making only his second start of his lifetime and has a every reason to go forward from his last race.

Race #3

# IRISH ALI I have been wrong about this one every start except his first start. He wins when I pick against him but loses when I put him on top. He exits last race with a strong effort and looks to be primed and ready to score again. The raise in class is offset by inside post. This one loves to play the stalker’s role.
# 5 READY CASH Makes first start of the season following one nice qualifier against a strong Standish Hanover. This one outgunned the latter but tired late in the lane. He was hand driven and should be a bit tighter.
# 6 WESTERN TUFF GUY Looks to be a fast one as this shipper from Pompano is owned and trained locally by Terry Long. Ray Paver is one capable driver that should add a little diversity to the driver colony.
# 2 TSM THUNDER RIDGE Made a first over move against a strong one in Moves in most recent contest. That move could be described as suicidal in nature and should be strong against present company.

Race #4

# 7 ENS BOSTON FLO Was a pretty decent two year old stake trotter last year and makes first start of 2001 in stake action. Mike Palone has his barn loaded and ready for bear. Looks to be able to gain a forward racing position and past lines show ability to race in a hole.
# 2 SCULLY FBI Is one pure early speed type trotter that has 6 races under her belt this season. She meets toughest company to date and might catch a neutral biased track. Meadows put down a cushion on Tuesday and without any rain since, should be a little tiring on front end speed horses.
# 1 TAG TEARS Gains rail and exits qualifier in good shape. She has not used hard but did show some nice movement when in traffic at the wire. She might be a sleeper against these.

Race #5

# 3 ROMAN SPUR Showed some signs of life in last week’s contest where he closed about five lengths in the lane. He was a fast one as a two year old and tailed off. He might be coming back with a vengeance tonight. His last half last week was about 57:2 which matches up nicely to all entered.
# 4 WHISKEY SOUR Is a front running sort that can be rated in the hole with little problem. He has enough speed to be in contact with this field through out the mile. His 6/1 morning line odds are not a true indication of his probability in hitting the board. I would recommend this one as a key on the under part of the exotics.
# 5 SILVER RANGER Makes first start of his three year old season in a race where his speed fits nicely. Bill Zendt’s wife sends this one out following a decent qualifier where he was under wraps. Looks to be hard to overlook as this one hit the board 11 times out of 14 starts as a two year old.

Race #6

# 4 APPLECIDER HANOVER Is one of the better trotters of this years crop of three year old filly trotters. She made over $121,000 last year and should pick up where she left off. Her strength lies in the ability to secure racing position and to be rated in a hole. She has exceptional acceleration when asked and has a flawless gait. Looks to be near 2/5 at post time. She exits qualifier with a great effort against one of the best of the sport’s three year old colts in Yankee Douglas.
# 3 DIGGITY DANCER The Cat Man arrives to steer this one and though it appears this one has trouble remaining on stride, I like her chances. She is one that appears to be unruly but fast. If Catello can get this one to the front, she should last a long way.
# 2 AMERICAN LEGGS Is nicely bred and has a front end style which should suit this race. She also has two qualifiers over this surface and seems strong enough to get a piece of this at double digit odds.

Race #7

# 2 TSM POWERPACK Has inside post, early speed and is dropping in class. Add Dave Palone and you get a strong candidate for the win. I would love to lock in the 7/2 morning line odds.
# 6 MIGHTY LORD N Has driver Brain Sears choose this one over one from the Corey barn which indicates the likelihood of this one hitting the ticket. He simply was awesome last out and moves up in class.
FLYING ROCK N Takes a serious drop in class and starts second time with the vitamin L (lasix). Last week’s race saw him make a break when starting in the outer flow. He might surprise a few here.

Race #8

# 3 CASA MARINA Looks to be in top form as she ships in from Pompano. Her speed is superior and by looking at the lines in the program, she looks to be a handy one. She can wire or circle these.
# 7 SPILL THE WINE Was a decent one on the stake scene last year and has missed the board only once. She is a speedy trotter that has three qualifying races at the Big M. She meets some of her old foes tonight which she bested in a close contest last September.
# 6 TREASURE FOREVER Ships in from Indiana with two nice qualifiers. She last met the second pick in September and lost by only a neck. She might be placed in the pocket if she is lucky.

Race #9

# 8 CELLULIGHT Mike Micallef ships back from Florida with a nice one as this speed demon seems to be rounding into shape. If he shipped well, look out. He meets similar types and looks to have enough early speed to gain the early lead and never look back. Mike loves to race on the engine when he is live. The eight hole might increase his odds at the window.
# 6 AZERBAIJAN Makes initial start for 2001 for the Palone stable. This stable has been on fire with these first time starters this season. Looks to be the one to beat though the odds will be short.
# 3 BULLDOG BIG GUY Hails from the Medors barn and seems to be in great conditioning. He exits qualifier with a strong finish. I really like this one’s chances as I foresee the Dunlap/Medors connection take off soon. Let us hope it is before the opening of Scioto Downs on May 5th.

Race #10

# 8 FANTASY HANOVER Did fill out following her two year old season and looks to be faster than ever. She has qualified well and did destroy non winners of two last out facing older. She is the real deal and should be racing first over past the half. If Bill Zendt wants to, she has the ability to race on the engine.
# 5 STEADY STARLET Hails from Rick “giant killer” Beinhauer barn. She has early speed and if left alone on the lead, can be very dangerous in the lane. Rick has won more of these trotting stake races than one might imagine and seems always to get a nice price.
# 2 AMARIS HANOVER Roger Hammer sends out this one that looks to be over her head. I am banking on the Hammer training and inside post to give this one a decent chance at adding value to the ticket. There is no one here that can get one to the front faster than he. Keeping her on stride is another story.

Race #11

# 5 BIG SKY QUEEN The Cat Man has a nice one in this filly. She did win 2 out of her 4 starts last year. She has early speed and has taken to this oval. Her sire, Dancer’s Victory, produces speed in his offspring but at times, it tends to be unruly. I see the Cat loose on the lead and never look back.
# 3 LEONA KOSMOS Competed in early closer series this season with good results. She is at her best when placed in a hole and allowed to relax. Joe Offut seems to be a bit aggressive in stake action and might try to gain the lead. She will be best served with a pocket trip.
# 2 FLORELAINE HANOVER Sam Beegle sends out a Lindy Lane filly that seems to be getting into a gun fight carrying only a knife. This one appears to be steady in her gait and may benefit from some action on the early lead. I add her only to gain some value in the trifecta ticket as I see her no better than third on the best race scenario imagined.

Race #12

# 7 REDCOAT HANOVER Takes a drop in class and gains Brain Sears in the bike. This one simply has more speed than any entered and should be alertly driven to the front. I see the morning line odds of 8/1 disappear quickly and see this one at odds near 8/5 at post time.
# 1 LOOKS LIKE LINDY Gains the rail and seems to be rounding into form. He drops slightly in class. He seems to be better on the dry surface than wet and seems to be better coming from off the pace than on the lead. Look for Brian Zendt to get away in mid pack position and be second over past the half.
# 2 EICARLS C D Has speed and inside post. Looks to gain the pocket trip to the Redcoat. He seems to have a little more stamina with lasix but the improvement is not as dramatic as one would expect.

Race #13

# 3 GLENN’S PARADISE Takes another drop in class to a level where his speed is superior. Look for this one to be odds on and race on the engine.
# 1 NOBIGDEALMOM Makes third start of the season while gaining an edge in post position. Looks to add some value to an otherwise low exotic pay out.
# 6 RAMNIFICENCE Has been having some problems of late that may or not been taken care of by her qualifier on 4-17. She used to be a steady gaited sort but recently has been having troubles behind the gate. She was one who was used mostly on or near the front end. I see her racing from no worse than the 4 hole if she remains on stride.

Race #14

# 3 MILLER HIGH FLIGHT Has been on top of his game in recent weeks and was run down last week by one superior animal. He did not stop, he was past which does make a difference. Last quarter under 30 seconds at this level usually hold up. Look for a similar drive tonight but the lead should hold up.
# 4 PATS PICK Has an ability to leave the gate quickly and race in hole effectively. This one is a game trotter that has no second thoughts of using the passing lane.
# 8 BIG ZEKE Has raced well in this company and seems to be at his best when he looks over matched. The eight hole should be great for his odds as he loves to come from the back. He must make an early move past the 3/8 to be live for the top prize.

Race #15

# 4 KEHMMY Money was sent on this one early and late in his first and only lifetime race last out. The Goldberg barn was hot last week and seemed to have the Midas Touch. This one meets a little tougher test tonight but seems best with his style of racing from off the pace. He may bring odds of near 4/1 at post time.
# 2 CAMTASTIC DARTS Seems to have found out that he is best when driven on the front end. This track may not be speed favoring due to the increased cushion placed on it on Tuesday. He should be the public’s stick at odds near even money.
# 9 MARSALA Has only one qualifier on her card but her breeding is nice. This 5 year old Cam’s Magic Trick mare looks to have more in her tank than the qualifier indicates. She faced Bingo Baron and lost only 5 lengths in the last half. I estimate her last half time to be under a minute. I just wish she had a better post than the nine hole.
# 8 I’LL DO Was my top pick last out but this one looked to be very rough gaited when asked for pace. She did come first over and closed nicely but might heart was racing due to the anticipation of her breaking stride. She might be a bit sore so it would not surprise me if she was a late scratch. If you are at the track, look for her warm up mile after the 11th or 12th race. If she looks sound, use her. If she has that hitch to her gait, you decide on whether to use her. She is fast enough though soundness is in question.
