Race #1

# 1 HAYLATROSS Always seems the best but is at the mercy of the early fractions. She did win three races in row and did win one at a higher level than this. Last week saw this one come hard for the place. I see a big night in store for Doug Snyder as they send out their flagship of the fleet later on tonight in the horse named for him in Yankee Douglas. He might be on automatic pilot when racing this one.
# 2 BELLE TRADITION Has been looking awfully strong on his warm up miles and also in recent race action. Looks to be placed near the front end and work out a nice trip.
# 5 HARE ROLLERS Gets the services of the best closing driver on the grounds in Brain Zendt. I might expect this one to race against his usual style and come from behind. She has been coming up short when racing on the engine and might actually wake this one up.

Race #2

# 6 STAN Doug Snyder gets the call in this race based on the horse’s ability. This one has peaked at the correct time as last week’s time of 1:58:3 is only two seconds short of the track record for three year old gelding trotters. He loves to come first over and use his power move to the front. Once he secures the lead he tends to swell up and will be almost impossible to pass in the lane.
# 1 PARDON ME Makes initial start of his three year old campaign and hails from the talented Henriksen stable. This one did manage to hit half his starts last year in the place position. Having the rail is a plus as Per H. is one nice trotting driver and tends to keep these types’ minds on racing flat.
# 4 T V SHOW KOSMOS Will be over looked by the public but last week’s race was a pretty decent effort. He was making his first start of the year and was hampered by the nine hole where he moved past the quarter and was outside the rest of the way. He did manage to get a check as he closed to 5th with a last quarter of 29:3. He as well as the second pick will add value to the exotics.

Race #3

# 1 BASE ALT Drops in class and gains the rail. This one loves to be in the early mix and seemed to find some extra pace in the lane last week. She might be rounding into form and may offer some value at the window.
# 3 SHE LIKES IT ON TOP Gets the services of Dave Palone as these two hooked up in her last win. She was used primarily as a front end sort till the that day as Palone recognized early the closing bias to the Meadows oval. He raced this mare from off the pace and indeed did circle the field.
# 8 BARBIE DOLL YANKEE Seems to be a speedy sort and was bet down as the favorite when Sears started with this one last week. She remains in class and Sears remains aboard. Where there is smoke there is fire. I would not omit this one from my superfecta tickets.
# 2 SAND BEACH BABE Ships in from Hoosier with some decent lines on her card. She hails from the strong stable of Jim Arledge Jr. She looks to be comfortable with a trip close to the lead so the inside post permits this one to get into the early flow. She might be very effective in that role as Dave Miller’s uncle, Del S. Miller jumps aboard her tonight.

Race #4

# 4 TIC TAG TOE I might be going out on a limb with this one but he did race effective on the fair circuit last year and won in what appears a training mile in the maiden ranks at Rosecroft last out. He seems to handle air well and might be the sleeper of the night.
# 8 TITANIC TAG Hails from the powerful Sugg operation which has sent some strong contenders to PA in the stake programs. This one makes his first start after qualifying in Florida. He has a tendency to put in steps as a two year old when competing here. I look for his closing from the back and may be a bit short in conditioning to make that move stick.
# 7 BEAT THE YANK Is a local entrant that did qualify against Yankee Douglas. Bill Zendt rarely sends his horses hard in qualifiers and this one may have developed to be very much stronger in real life than appears on paper. He meets one of the weaker divisions which should improve his chances at a nice pay day.

Race #5

# 2 BEACH BINGE I am going with the concessus of my horse e-mail group friends and going with this one. She was a nice animal on the Northfield oval and is at her best when closing from the back. Last week saw Bill Fahy try to race her in a forward position and she seemed to tire a bit from her efforts. She might benefit from that style tonight provided Fahy uses it.
# 4 BOBS ON THE ROAD Has won two and four races back in this class. She seems to be able to race from the back or cut out her own miles. I foresee a closing trip for her as is to be considered a key on the under part of the exotics.
# 7 RUTHLESS JEN Gets bad post but will be hustled out the gate. She is deadly if she is near the leaders and hits the passing lane. She has great acceleration when called upon.

Race #6

# 6 CR MUNGO JERRY It seems that every year the Carl and Rodney Allen barn have a sleeper in their entrants to these early trotting stake races and this one fits the past year’s profile. Look for this barn to have one with a couple starts under his belt and a qualifier the week before the race. If this barn wins wire to wire in that qualifying effort, go to the window. It is for that reason he gets my long shot of the day call.
# 2 PASSING POINT Exits the Big M with two decent qualifiers where this one did show some late movement. Having inside post and the ability to stay flat should set this one nicely.
# 4 HOMESTEAD ALLERGO Steve Salerno comes to the Little “m” to drive this one. He has three wins so far this season and looks to measure up to the competition. He looks sound, fast and is on a roll. I did not use this one as the top pick as he faced something less of a talented field than he is facing tonight. I usually go with trends more in the first stake of the season rather than past performance lines. It might be a mistake as Steve Salerno has opened my eyes (by way of Rusty Nash) to his talents this year, both as a driver and trainer. His horses usually race at Pocono and the Big M.

Race #7

# 3 RAIN DANCE KIM Did win the top classification of mares on the grounds three straight times with the last being from the nine hole. She was mandated to take a week sabbatical due to the “three wins and your out” rule agreed to by Meadows management and the horsemen. She returned to be a shadow of her old self. Looks to find easier competition on the drop down. She should be sued in a forward racing position.
# 6 GO CATHY GO Has found new life of late since being claimed into the Randy Bendis barn. She is one with above average speed and a hug heart. She loves to go to the front and secure racing position. She has used the passing lane with success.
# 1 JENELLE MINDALE Is the over achiever of this lot as she has done everything asked of her and then more. She is blessed with early speed and an even temperament. This three year old filly is facing older more experienced mares but has the correct attitude and weapons to be effective.

Race #8

# 3 GUTSY CALL Put in some strong and I mean very strong qualifiers at the Big M in preparation for this event. This one seems to be in possession of excellent gate speed and should be controlling in nature. If he negotiates the tight turns here, should win in a romp.
# 6 CR PANTS ON FIRE Has won a few races in Canada before shipping south. Rod Allen has a nice one in here but meets in what I consider a buzz saw in the top pick. He will have to settle for place if both horses remain on stride.
# 2 SJ’S TOSTITOS This one hails from the Maryland’s own, David Wade. His small but effective stable has been very productive in the PA sire stake programs. This one did win one here last year and seems to be poised to start the three year old season on the right foot.

Race #9

# 4 BOCUSE FLASH Got my call last week and I still thinking high of her.. She made an uncharacteristic break last out and failed to fire. She drops down a few notches and should have her way with these.
# 3 FOX VALLEY HOLLY Was claimed two back and put in a tough effort in her first start when facing a tougher lot. She now losses the higher tag and is in the level of the claim. I recommend this one as a key on the under part of the exotics.
# 1 ANN CAN TU Is used to add some value to an otherwise short pay off. I went with Doug Snyder as it appears on paper he will have a great day of racing. This one closed willingly two back when moving up slightly in class and faced others in a distaff restricted claiming race.

Race #10

# 7 IDONTDANCE I must inform all that my friends own this horse that was a private purchase during the off season. This one always had speed but was a troubled trotter when racing as he made breaks all too often. He has been under the training of owner Bill Sobeski who is very patient with these types. He has a record of turning this ones around. In his first race for the new connections, he closed willingly without a sign of tiring. He did finish a close second in the maiden race but did bleed where he was not getting much air. He raced the last quarter on heart and refused to quit. He was placed on lasix after the race and had to sit out the 10 days due to the lasix rule. He makes his second start for the connections. I wish Bill and Mike the best and wish I could attend but alas will working the Roadhouse for a Professional Wrestling match.
# 6 SPRINGTREK Has not fared well with open company but meets this contest with a decent front end qualifier under his belt. Rick Beinhauer has been a force when racing in stake action with his trotters. This one should add some value to the ticket if he remains on stride.
# 2 TREAD MILL Seems to be another one with early speed and seems to have found more stamina as a three year old. Driver Bryan Truitt rarely gets much support at the Meadows but he is a fine trotting horseman. Looks to be in the pocket to the second pick.

Race #11

# 2 YANKEE DOUGLAS Has two superior qualifiers under him and looks to start the road to the Hambo by way of the Meadows. He is one of the best in the country and will not disappoint. Look for odds approaching 2/5 once the simulcast money sifts into the pools by half mile pole of the race. About 70 percent of the pool comes in after the race starts, the price we all pay for simulcast wagering.
# 3 TIFF TUFF TAG Raced huge two back and went a training mile in last effort. Charlie Norris will have this one in gear and should be in close proximity to the top pick. He has to race along the pylons and hold off the closing types to gain the place.
# 6 BIG CHILL HANOVER Was used sparingly in his first start since shipping from the south. He looks loaded but meets the toughest division of the stakes tonight. He will be coming from well out of it and may be a little short in the lane.

Race #12

# 8 SJ’S CAVIAR Qualified under wraps on the 20th and meets a field void of any controlling speed. He should leave hard and never look back. His morning line odds of 2/1 will not be realized and expect odds of near 4/5 if we are lucky.
# 4 GETINTHEPHOTO Is probably David Wade’s best entrant and should be raced near the front end. He seems to be able to be rated so a pocket trip to the top pick seems like the logical scenario. This exacta should be in the $6.00 range.
# 1 CR BELLMAN Rod and Carl Allen send out a less than successful trotter but has qualified at the Big M in a big way. He came from well out of it to be within 4 lengths at the wire. He should be one that will be walking on egg shells till the stretch but with a perfect gait, can make this ticket. His propensity to make breaks as a two year old might increase his odds but diminishes his selection value.

Race #13

# 5 SAPHIRE SKIPPER Closed well with the first start on the vitamin “L” lasix last out and should go forward. She is one that seems to have some nice closing speed and should benefit from the lack of any controlling speed types entered.
# 2 IN THE MONEY BUNNY Makes second start since shipping in from the Big M. Having Brian Sears in the bike tonight might be a sign of this one’s readiness as Jamie Dunlap usually steers Mike Medors trainees.
# 6 CAM JET I liked this one last week and have not changed my mind. I am just posting last week’s comments when I chose this one in the top spot. “Meets a strong field for this class as no less than 6 out of eight have faced better in their last start. I am confident that given her post she is best to benefit from the early pace. She is only five years old and has finished her recent races in the back of the field. She is not winded on her return to the paddock making me think that she has more than her lines show. It just could be they are setting this one up for a nice score.” Notice that last week’s line displays a break at the start. It is for that reason alone that her selection this week is lessened.

Race #14

#8 SUPER EARL Exits last race at the Big M where she faced the boys in $25,000 claiming action. She returns home to face the girls in what appears to be the softest spot this year. I would love to lock in the 3/1 morning line odds.
# 3 WHITESVILLE CROWN Has been racing in sharp form since dropping down to this class. She is one that loves to close from the back and may be second over to the top pick.
# 1 PREAMBLE HANOVER Won in a easy way last out and moves up in class. She hails from a hot barn in the Goldberg operation. She will be best served with a late move to the front.

Race #15

# 9 BROWNEYEDEMILY Was claimed back into the Mowood barn and gets the services of one Dave Palone. This two have hooked up for many a win following a claim in their horses’ first start. They should be considered armed and dangerous.
# 1 DANIELLE LEE Is a consistent a mare one would hope for. She draws inside post and has been first or second in her last 6 starts. She is recommended as a key in the superfecta wagering pools, both a back up to the top pick and the under part of the exotics.
# 5 TUFF SANDY Was scratched sick two back and raced well in her start back. She is ahead strong sort that can leave or close to be effective. She should add value to the ticket.
# 3 LAUGHING LADY Is one that was scratched last out but has been a consistent sort since the addition of lasix. I feel this one should be ready to pounce on the tiring ones in the stretch.
