Handsboro Presbyterian Church

Workday with Overlook Presbyterian

This is a photo album of the day that Overlook Presbyterian Church from Mobile,
Alabama to help us after Hurricane Katrina damaged us. They came to fix us lunch, bring
supplies and to clean up. The heat this day was terrible - in the high 90's. They worked
tirelessly at the church until they were dripping with sweat. Then, they went into the
neighborhood and worked some more in yards and homes. What they did for
us has meant so much, and we will never forget their kindness and their selfless giving.

My only regret is that I don't know everyone's names.

Unloading tons of stuff after they arrived: food, water, cleaning supplies.

Mess in the sanctuary that was history after their team got busy.

The sanctuary was scrubbed from top to bottom and has never been so clean!

Just some of the buckets of cleaning supplies and mops that were brought for church members and Coast residents who needs them.

A group of people working around the gazebo. They got all of the debris that the crew who chopped up the trees left.

A tree was down in back that needed to be cut up, and a lot of debris had to be removed.

These two tackled around the side fence.

Surveying the damage in the sanctuary.

These wonderful people gave their time, and their energy and their hearts. They donated money to help us in a tight financial crunch, and they brought supplies for people to use to clean their homes. They cooked for us, and they cleaned for us, and they gave of themselves. Those of us who were able to be there with them received rich blessings. Some of us made good friends.

We would like to thank the ladies who provided lunch on Saturday: Daisy Grimes, chief cook; Betty Carolynn Hearon-Love, and Brenda Show; plus the cookie and dessert ladies, Stephanie Johnson, Terri Crow and Sandy Givens.

Names of the people who came from Overlook are: Doug Resler, Pastor; Alison S., Clerk of Session; Mary McDonald, Laura Kuhn, Daisy Grimes, Sally McGough, , David McGough, Patrick McGough, Erin McGough, Betty Carolyn Hearon-Love, Mary Sellers, Rebecca (from England), Erin's friend, Basil, Brenda Snow, Wade Snow, Butch Morrow, Brad James, O.P. Smith, Lisa Clay, John Tyler, Buddy Armour, Emile Gresham, Youth Director, friend Karen, Jerry and Linda McClarnroch, Roy Davis, Lisa Clay, John Lane, Nick Alaxis' son-in-law and grandson.
(Please forgive any misspellings or butchering of names, and let me know the correct names.)

We hope that our churches will be able to keep the connection and the bond that was formed. Hurricanes can bring about good things. In a time when many of our members were hurting, and had lost so much, we received such a blessing from our new friends.
