Fan fiction definitions vary from fan to fan. There is nothing set in stone here.

 

Alternate Universe: Taking characters out of their canon setting and placing them elsewhere, for example, hobbit roller derby.

Beta reader: Proofreader/copy editor

Canon: The original source material.

Crossover: Where two or more fandoms meet in one story.

Drabble: A fiction of 100 words.

Fandom: The universe created by fans.

Fangirl/boy: Comewhat similar to "groupie." Can be used in a negative way with connotations of brainless adoration and/or extreme hormonal reactions (e.g. "OMG! Orlando Bloom is sooooooo hot!!! I want to have his babies like now!!!!!!!") Yeah.

Fic: Short for "fan fiction."

Flames: A response or review of a fic that consists of nothing but insults.

Het: "Heterosexual," refers to a romance pairing. The opposite is Slash.

Hurt/Comfort: A fan fiction involving a character who is hurt and another character who comforts.

Mary Sue/Marty Stu: Glorified author self insert

Mpreg: Male pregnancy.

MST3K: A television show that featured a guy and some puppets watching B-movies and making fun of them. Amusing commentary during a movie, or fic, is known as MST3King.

OMG!: "Oh, my God!"

OTP: "One True Pairing"Ship: Abbreviation of "relationship."

Pairing: The bits before and after the /. Remus/Sirius is a pairing.

RPS: "Real Person Slash" RPS is fan fiction when the objects of fandom are real celebrities. For instance, the fictional romatic escapades of Elijah Wood and Sean Astin vs. Frodo and Sam.

Slash: A non-canon homosexual relationship

Shipper: Proponents of a "ship." Writers who want Harry to end up with Hermione are "Harry/Hermione shippers."

Squick: That which makes you feel uncomfortable. Imagine your parents having sex. For many people, this is squicky.

TOS'ed: Someone who gets thrown off a site for violating the "Terms Of Service" is said to be TOS'ed.
