MomentumIn this unit, we will discuss momentum, which was introduced briefly when we discussed Newton's second law - "the force applied to an object is proportional to the change in momentum." We will analyze car crashes, among other things. We will also introduce impulse. It is intimately related to momentum, by the impulse-momentum theorem. It will help explain the anvil demonstration. This unit includes the famous physics demonstration with an anvil. You can see it by clicking here. You need Quicktime in order to view this movie. You can also download the movie by right clicking the link, and select "Save target as." This section will emphasize the concepts as well as math. In order for us to do that better, discussion questions will be asked in class and assigned for homework. There are two sets: one online and one in a separate packet. You should have both. In the separate packet, we will do these questions: Under forces: CT1, CT2, CT3; inertial mass, momentum, collisions: CT2-4,CT6-8,CT10,CT11,CT13,CT14,CT16-20,CT23-26; interactions: CT1,CT3,CT4,CT8 Objectives
