Hi, my name is Grant and I have been involved with Scouting as a youth, and then as an adult leader for over 47 years. I was a Cub, Scout and Venturer as I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. I held the position of Scoutleader of the Ruapehu Troop for 13 years, and have also been a District Scoutleader, District Commissioner and am currently an Area Scout Leader (for the past 11 years). I gained my Wood Badge in 1989 and am now a 3-Beader and hold the New Zealand appointment of Assistant National Trainer (Scout Section). Two years ago, I was awarded the Bronze Tiki. My wife Laureen was a Woodbadged Scoutleader and Venturer Leader for eight years, and my three grown-up sons have all been through Scouts. Warwick (33) has his Woodbadge and is a holder of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award; John (30) is a Queen Scout; and Brian (27) gained his Chief Scout Award. I have been collecting CSPs since 1992 when I worked at Camp Rainey Mountain in NE Georgia as part of that year's International Camp Staff Programme, and then attended (with John) the very first Santa Clara County International Rendezvous in California. In 1993, my wife, two youngest sons and I were the ENTIRE New Zealand contingent at the US Jamboree at Fort A.P.Hill. We have taken Scouts from NZ to the following BSA summer camps: Santa Clara County's Camp Hi-Sierra in 1994, 2000 and 2006, Orange County's Lost Valley Scout Reservation in 1997, and Northeast Georgia's Camp Rainey Mountain in 1993 and 2003. My sons have all worked at BSA summer camps. * Warwick was at Muskingum Valley in Ohio in 1994 and 1995. * John worked at Camp Rainey Mountain in NE Georgia in 1993 and Camp Hi-Sierra in California in 1996 (both times as Waterfront Staff). * Brian was at Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia in 1993 (Camp QM), Camp Hi-Sierra in California in 2000 (Rappelling/Climbing Instructor), and was back at Camp Rainey Mountain (as their Golf MB Instructor) in 2007. |
