Hanson-Allen Family

Hanson Family Memorials at Great Burstead Church

The words on the concrete grave cover are not very legible, however, the transcriber managed to read the following:

" ?
 ?  Memory of
Francis Jane  wife of the Revd G.L.Hanson M.A
who died ? 1879 aged 60 years."
"?
 to the Memory of the
 Revd G.L. HANSON M.A.
? years Vicar of this Parish
 who departed this life
? aged 78 years"

Rev. Hanson was the Vicar at Great Burstead Church from 3rd Nov 1856 until his death in 1879, five months after his wife's death.

This cropped photo shows a closer version of the inscription

Memorial on the wall of Great Burstead Church

In Memory of
JOHN SPERLING GEORGE HANSON
of the Wanganui Rangers
youngest and dearly beloved Son
of the Vicar of this Parish
who was Accidently drowned at Opotiki New Zealand
whilst forming one of the East Coast Expedition
on the 14 of Sep 1865
in the 19 year of his age
Deeply lamented by his sorrowing Family
"I shall go to him"
"But He shall not return to me"

No further detail is at present known of this drowning and indeed this younger brother had otherwise been forgotten. Caroline was already in Wanganui at this time.
