Once a year, the King holds and attends this camel race. This is done
to maintain a connection with the Bedouin people who populate the vast open
desert areas. It was these people who helped King Saud fight the wars that
united the country.
The race is quite long, and the spectators drive their trucks and cars along
the race course to watch.
The winner of the race receives a shiney new bright-red water truck.
