I remember when hope was a strain beyond your strength that adds an inch to your inward length. Hope is the moment when you jump up

feet to a running place for one little look at her beaking face.
-- Reynaldo Camilo, 5th

TYGER, TYGER, BURNING BRIGHT
IN THE FOREST OF THE NIGHT

Horse, Horse, clickety-clackety.
In the ponds, splash, splash.
Come in for a nice delight and wake yourself from the night.
Kid, Kid, I don't have the time. But away went the horse with
his clickety-clackety splash, splash.
-- Doris Norris, 5th

Lion Lion, what big eyes through
the forest, up in the sky.
From the mountains to the isle.
Oh Lion what so lies? From my eyes to my bone I shiver and tiver
with my eyes. I sit and wonder where I am. I come as your sign.
Why so high? You sit beside me. I wonder why. I like you. You
like ne, so step outside and rumblewise. I fight you so you fight
me, but sometimes I wonder why. My mother comes, she smacks you fast.
-- Ana Maria Mendez, 4th

Condor! Condor! up in the sky,
how can you fly so high?
Glowing eyes in the night.
Why do they glow like a G.E. light?
The wings of Paradise stretch so far,
why do they look like a glob of tar?
You live so high on the mountain peaks
just sitting there for twenty weeks.
-- Charles Amorosa, 4th

As the weasel whips through
the wind he picks up a chicken.
After he finishes it he thunders
back for more.
With his beady little eyes he
watches as the chickens go by,
waiting for the right moment to attack.
What a fearless beast he is.
Very slowly he squirms by you
and you don't even know it.
-- Rita Sansotta, 4th

Lion, Lion, why are you
King of the Jungle?
I am King of the Jungle
'cause I am brave.
Butterfly, Butterfly,

-- Barbara, 4th

Oh little cat, why are you so
gentle and kind? Oh little dog,
why are you so fierce and angry?
Oh why are you so white and soft?
Oh why are you so big and small?

just stood there watching me and then walked away.
-- Michele Campis, 6th

Under the artificial me which
No one really knows, I try to
Deliver the message that I hope
Everyone will see. What is
Right or wrong. I am
Starting to find out.
Trying to know which one I should do;
Although I am confused and
No one is listening and I am almost near
Death,
I'm trying to
Nervously tell
God to fill me with understanding.

your date last night by pouring juice
on your white dress, pulling off your

up in heaven.
TWA just turned eleven.

As I sit on my veranda swing
as I sit on the playground swing

I think he loves me.
I bet he likes me.
