Chapter 1
Brian sat in his hammock that hung between two large oak trees in his back yard. He stared up at the small part of sky that was visible between the trees. He began thinking of the last time he laid there with no worries on his mind. He closed his eyes when he finally remembered when exactly that was. He was with her. The one who had stolen his heart and wouldn’t give it back. He believed that at one time he was holding on to hers too. But after awhile, he started to realize that just maybe, he never did have it.
“What happened between us?” Brian asked himself.
With his eyes still closed, he began thinking of the day they met, and playing over every moment they had together, to figure out what happened.
*Three Months Earlier*
“Come on let’s party!” AJ exclaimed as they entered the after show party. About an hour ago they were all sitting at the Grammy’s absolutely sure they wouldn’t win one. They were right, but they all said there was always next year. The guys separated and mingled through the other celebrities and friends of the celebrities.
“Hey Nick.” Brian said pulling him off to the side.
“Yeah?” he replied.
“Who’s that girl over there?” He pointed to a girl who looked to be in her early twenties, shoulder length blonde hair, she could have been at least five foot five and very slender. She wore a short black dress that complimented her figure. To Brian, she was a complete knock out.
“Oh her? That’s Teresa Stephans. I guess she’s going on tour with 98 degrees in a few days. You’ve never heard of her before?”
“No.” Brian answered simply.
“Well go talk to her. AJ’s checking her out, get over there before he does.” Nick gave Brian a friendly shove in Teresa’s direction. Brian kept walking right toward her. He watched her as she stood by the bar, sipping something dark out of a plastic cup. He figured it was just soda. She searched around the room, probably trying to find someone she knew. Then she saw him walking right toward her. She looked around to see if he was actually looking at her or someone else. He smiled at her, and she smiled back, still not sure if that smile was to her or not.
“Hi.” Brian said when he finally made his way to her. “I’m Brian.”
She smiled a bright friendly smile. “I’m Teresa. It’s really nice to meet you.” She held out her hand and shook his.
“So what are you doing standing here all by yourself?”
“Oh, just checking out who’s here.” She answered. “Actually I don’t know a soul except for maybe four or five people.”
“Well you…”
“Hey Teresa! The guys and I are going to leave, you coming?” Jeff from 98 degrees asked, interrupting Brian.
“Oh yeah.” She answered. She looked back at Brian. “It was really nice meeting you.”
“Yeah you too.” He replied.
Teresa turned the other direction and met up with Jeff. Then they started walking toward the entrance.
“Oh too bad Rok.” Nick said with a large grin on his face, standing behind Brian. Brian turned around and glared at him. It turned into a smile after looking at Nick for a minute.
“Yeah well what can you do?” he asked shrugging his shoulders.
Nick’s face fell when Brian felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see that it was Teresa. She got closer and whispered in his ear,
“Call me later.”
Then she pressed a small piece of paper to his palm and he closed his fingers around it. She flashed him yet another gorgeous smile and walked away. He unfolded the piece of paper and read it.
I’m only going to be in town for a week.
Give me a call. 555-8963 room 715.
Teresa
He folded up the piece of paper with a very large smile on his face and shoved it in his left pants pocket. Then he turned around to see the priceless look on Nick’s face. It was a mix of ‘I can’t believe that’ and ‘Why do you get the girls?’ Brian couldn’t help but laugh.
“Well it looks like I’m a lucky man. She’s staying here a few more days and, oh, look! So are we!” Brian beamed.
“That really isn’t fare man. You always get all the girls.”
“Excuse me, who’s known as the heart throb?”
“That doesn’t count and you know it. That’s just a bunch of little girls.”
“You have fun with them while I have fun with a really beautiful woman.”
The rest of the night went by pretty fast. They finally decided to leave after they saw that Howie had a few too many drinks.
“I don’t wanna leave.” He slurred.
“Too bad man, we gotta get you back to the hotel.” Kevin said.
“Yeah man you’re wasted! We don’t want anyone taking pictures of you and posting them all over the place.” AJ answered.
“Thank you very much AJ.” Kevin said with a little annoyance in his voice.
“No problem.”
“Where are you taking me?” Howie slurred out again. It took the guys a minute to figure out what he said.
“Back to the hotel.” Nick finally answered.
Chapter 2
Kevin and AJ helped Howie to his room and Nick and Brian went to their room. They had to share one and AJ was the only one who got his own room. Brian slid the key card into the door and opened it. He turned on some of the lights and collapsed on the bed closest to the balcony.
“Brian wanna play me?” Nick asked referring to the Playstation that he brought everywhere.
“Sleep.” Brian groaned. His face was buried in his pillows and didn’t have the strength to move. He jumped, startled by the knock at the door and turned his head and watched as Nick walked to the door and slowly opened it.
“Oh my god!” Brian heard. By the sound of it, it sounded like a girl.
“Great.” He said to himself. He managed to pull himself out of bed and to see what was going on.”
“I’m so sorry to disturb you Nick, but we just wanted to meet you.”
Once Brian moved in closer he saw that there were two girls standing in the hallway just star-struck. They had to be at least fifteen or sixteen. Once the girls saw Brian they got even more excited.
“What are you names?” Nick asked.
“I’m Abby and this is my friend Lacey.” She answered. “Can you please sign these?”
She held up two photos of the group along with a marker. Nick took them and signed them and handed them to Brian who did the same. Once he was done he handed them back to the girls.
“How did you manage to get up here?” he asked.
“It wasn’t that hard at all.” Said Abby.
“The hardest part was trying to find the right room.” Lacey piped in.
“What did you go around knocking on everyone’s door?” asked Nick in disbelief.
“Actually we did. There are a lot of people who aren’t very happy at all.”
The girls said their ‘good-byes’ and ‘thank you’s’ and were off. Nick closed the door and Brian kicked off his shoes and collapsed back into his bed, too tired to change. Soon he drifted off to sleep, only hearing the sounds of the playstation and Nick’s grunts from messing up.
Chapter 3
*Next Morning*
Brian slowly opened his eyes, and looked at his surroundings. It took him a few seconds to remember where he was. He rolled over onto is right side to see if Nick was still asleep and saw that he wasn’t even in the room. He figured he must have gone to get some breakfast. Brian sat up and rubbed his eyes and checked to see what time it was. It was 11:00. He got up to and went to the corner of the room, where his duffel bag was, to get some clothes so he could change. Before he did change he reached in his pockets to make sure there wasn’t anything in it. He pulled out a single piece of paper and remembered exactly what it was. He smiled to himself and walked around his bed and to his phone. He picked it up and dialed the number and after about four rings, there was an answer.
“Hello?” came a female voice.
“Hey is this Teresa?” Brian asked.
“Yes.” She answered, not really sure who she was talking to.
“This is Brian. We met last night at the party.” He said refreshing her mind.
“Oh yes I remember you.” She said happily. “What’s up?”
“I was wondering if you had any plans for today.”
She thought for a minute. “Well, actually I have nothing to do today.”
“Great, you want to get together then?” He was almost holding his breath, thinking that she was going to say no.
“Sure that would be cool.” She answered.
Brian sighed. “Ok do you want to meet somewhere?”
“I’m at the Hyatt. Do you know where that is?” she asked.
“Yeah I’m in the hotel across from it.”
“Great, I’ll meet you in the lobby in about an hour then?”
“Sure.”
“Ok see you then. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Brian hung up the phone with a large smile on his face. He went and got dressed and then left his room to go to Kevin’s to see if they were all hanging around there. He knocked on the door and he heard Howie moaning about the ‘loud noises’ as he was saying. He could hear AJ laughing at him, and footsteps heading to the door. Once it opened Brian was face to face with Nick.
“Hey man, we didn’t think you’d ever wake up. Even Howie got up before you.”
Brian shrugged and Nick moved aside to let Brian in.
“Hey D how are you feeling?” Brian asked as he made his way in the room.
“Speak quieter, too loud.” He groaned.
“Maybe we should leave Howie alone.” Said Kevin.
The others agreed and they made their way to AJ’s room.
“So what are everyone’s plans for today?” Kevin asked after they all filed into the room.
“I’m going shopping.” AJ answered. “I was supposed to go with D but uh, I don’t think he’s quite up to it.”
“Nothing.” Answered Nick.
“As always.” AJ commented.
Nick glared at him.
“What about you Rok?” asked Kevin.
“Oh I’m just going to go out for awhile.” He answered.
“You’re going out with Teresa aren’t you.” Nick said eyeing him.
“Who’s Teresa?” AJ asked.
“You know Teresa Stephans? She’s got a single out I think it’s called…actually I don’t even remember what it’s called.”
“Isn’t she touring with Nsync or something?” asked Kevin.
“No 98 Degrees.”
“Oh I remember her now. She’s damn hot.” AJ commented.
“Well I have to get going guys. Have a great day.” Said Brian. He got up from the chair he was sitting in and started walking to the door. The guys didn’t say anything else to him. They knew to let it be and he would have to talk to them about her sometime. Or they would have to beat it out of him.
Chapter 4
Brian made it out of his hotel and into Teresa’s without being spotted by anybody. Usually on the days he doesn’t want anyone to notice him, it wouldn’t work out that way and vise versa. But he was lucky this time and he waited in the lobby as he had said. After waiting for about ten minutes he finally spotted her coming off one of the two elevators.
She smiled once she saw him and made her way to him.
“Hi.” She said.
“Hey. So what should we do today?” he asked.
“I don’t know but can it include food? I’m starving!”
Brian let out a soft laugh. “Sure.”
He pulled his hat and sunglasses from out of his back pocket and put them on.
“Oh incognito.” Teresa commented.
“Yeah it helps but not all the time.
“I’m not to that point yet.”
“You’re the lucky one.”
She slipped her arm around his and they began walking out of the hotel and down the street, trying to agree on a place to eat. Finally they decided just to go into a small diner, hoping that there weren’t that many people inside and there wasn’t. They sat there talking about anything and everything that they had on their mind. There wasn’t a minute of silence between the two of them.
“So I hear you’re going on tour in a few days.” Said Brian, changing the subject once again. He wanted to learn as much about her as he could.
“Yes I am.” She said with a big smile. “I can’t wait either. The guys are so nice and I love being on stage. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.” She paused for a brief second. “What about you? Aren’t you going on tour again?”
“Yeah this is just a little break for us. We have about another two months to go.”
After they were finished eating they decided to do go for a walk in a nearby park. Still they never ran out of things to say. They spent about three hours there and then decided to start heading back.
“The fellas and I were planning to go out to dinner tonight. Would you like to come with us?” Brian asked as they reached her room.
“Yeah that would be great.” She flashed him another smile that almost made him melt. She seemed to be doing that a lot.
“Great I’ll pick you up at seven then.”
“Ok.”
She gave him a kiss on the cheek and gave him a hug.
“See ya then.” She said and disappeared into her room.
