This follow-up to the popular 1995 video hit 'Friday' lacks
charisma and relies on one general theme for all its laughs.
Rapper turned actor Ice Cube reprises his role as Craig, a
boy from the 'hood who runs into trouble with local nasties.
When one of his enemies, played by ex WWF wrestler Tiny Lister
(Zeus) breaks out of jail and comes seeking revenge, Craig's
Dad (John Witherspoon) packs his son off to stay with his cousin
and uncle in a posh house in the suburbs. This may sound like
the script of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and, well, it is quite
similar actually, except this rich uncle is a dope smoking sex
fiend (and Ice Cube does not have the comic presence of Will
Smith).
Every second line in this film is either a swear word or some
indecipherable street slang which can get annoying after a while.
Also, the only consistently funny actor in the cast is John
Witherspoon as Craig's dog patrol officer Dad while at the other
end of the scale the Puerto Rican gang across the road are mindbogglingly
unfunny.
This film does have a handful of genuinely hilarious moments.
However these are few and far between, hidden amongst a host
of tired gags that revolve around sex, drugs, or Day Day's (Mike
Epps) precious car.
Only worth seeing if you are sure you are in the mood for some
really low brow African American humour.
