Colin McRae Rally 2.0
Even though my first few attempts at playing COLIN McRAE RALLY 2
 resembled the antics of a very inexperienced lumberjack I
 managed to extricate myself from the trees eventually and began 
to enjoy the racing experience instead. Even if you’re not 
particularly a lover of motor sports sims you can’t help but be
 impressed with the sheer adrenaline rush you get when 
screeching broadside around hairpins and this is a title that 
will appeal to the boy racer in us all.
 
Rallying is a much more personal sport than F1 or Indy Car. It’s
 about man and machine against the clock, not against other 
drivers. Oh, they’re there all right but you never really get up
 their bumpers, or they up yours for that matter. It’s simply
 the struggle to keep at least a couple of those four wheels on 
the track as you watch that little clock in the corner ticking 
away. The disembodied voice of your co-driver monotonously 
calling the curves becomes a blur of meaningless chatter as,
 with eyes fixed on the screen, you follow your instincts (and 
the little arrows) to navigate unfamiliar and unfriendly 
terrain.
 
12 cars are selectable with which to unlock and master the 8 
tortuous courses. From the Ford Focus to the Seat Cordoba you’ll
 need to ensure that they are set up and tuned to perfection. 
Even the best cars are susceptible to damage though and you may 
still experience the windscreen shattering and the spoilers 
somehow becoming detached. These are simply minor inconveniences
 in a race where the weather can turn nasty – where a gentle
 curve reacts like an ice rink and where unforgiving road 
surfaces can rattle your teeth, if you’ve got a Dual Shock, that
 is.
 
The PC version varies little from PSX although the graphics are
 a little better which, in turn, adds an added depth of realism
 to the vehicles and tracks. There is also a LAN mode for head 
to head's with up to 8 taking part in what can only be described
 as a total rally experience.

Fear not, you inexperienced ones…! There will be plenty of
 opportunity to master your craft and compete with the best. 3
 difficulty settings, an arcade mode and time trial courses will
 enable even the most novice amongst you to enjoy the thrills
 that were once the realm of the rich and foolhardy. COLIN McRAE
 RALLY 2 is sheer entertainment and not to be missed…!
