Destruction Derby Raw

Half the fun of any car racing game is crashing but it’s even better when crashing helps you to win rather than lose. The Destruction Derby series proved this with its sales topping 2 million and now the latest addition, DESTRUCTION DERBY RAW, is set to gain a new cult of followers eager to start trashing and smashing. Unlike some similar titles DDR is actually quite a good racer in its own right. The cars are powerful and noisy; throbbing with energy and dripping high octane, and tearing around the lethal tracks at top speed is a lot of fun on its own. Simply winning, however, is not enough…! You’ve got to score points and these are only won by ramming, tail-ending, spinning, flipping and trashing the other competitors in the race. You do get points for being placed but these are never enough to carry you through so you have to make a choice: do you go for the line or make for the other cars at the risk of losing a few places? Obviously you go for the latter…! It doesn’t matter about winning when you can have so much fun wreaking mindless carnage but there will still be those who’s competitiveness will steer them towards glory. They will be more mindful about the state of their car and with just about every panel, bumper and wing nut being deformable and susceptible to damage they’ll have to make sure they come out of collisions better off than their opponents. Perhaps they’d be better off in the ‘Smash for Cash’ race option where more customisation features are on offer and winning allows you to repair and upgrade to faster and stronger vehicles. In my opinion it doesn’t really matter which of the race options you choose, the end result is still going to be the same. Whether you are playing alone or with 3 others in the multiplayer mode, whether you are a career monger or a one-race junkie or whether you love tinkering with set-ups or prefer to just jump in and drive DESTRUCTION DERBY RAW is just great fun to play.
