Dino Crisis 2

Imagine all that roast beef, pork, turkey and chicken you’ve stuffed yourself with during the last couple of weeks – then turn the tables and put yourself on the menu instead…! I don’t mean nicely prepared, seasoned and cooked – how does alive and raw sound? Not very appealing is it? But that’s the situation in DINO CRISIS 2. It’s a year on from the last catastrophe and Dr. Kirk’s research has been taken over by the military. Sadly, they don’t seem to have learned many lessons from the recent disaster and precautionary measures have been overlooked and underestimated. Edward City, the site of the experimentation, has suddenly and mysteriously disappeared and in its place a Jurassic jungle from prehistoric times has sprouted. It’s a place inhabited by vicious and hungry dinosaurs, 10 different varieties, but all mean and not too pretty…! Into this prehistoric setting a team of rescuers is sent to seek out the survivors and, hopefully, get them all to safety which, as you may have guessed, is not as straightforward as it might seem. Dark and menacing jungle settings are idea for the hungry dino’s but not for humans. Suddenly transformed from hunter to hunted players must be constantly on the alert for the dark shadows moving through the undergrowth and have their weapons primed and ready at all times. It’s rare in this game to be confronted by a single dino. They seem to hunt in packs of three of four – except for the mighty T-Rex, who doesn’t need allies and would probably eat them anyway…! The others will step into your path or sneak up from behind and they possess an uncanny artificial intelligence. Fortunately, enhancements in the gameplay now allow you to carry two weapons at a time, which does even the odds somewhat. Nevertheless, lightning fast reflexes are necessary in order to shoot and turn, shoot and turn as the beasts emerge all around you. Points are scored for each dino killed – more if you perform a combo attack and more still if you clear an area unscathed. These points, as well as proving your ability, can also be exchanged for weapons, medi-packs and ammo so it follows that the better you are, the more tooled up you can be for the next mission. These can take many forms including the protection of team members; underwater missions and item retrieval and players can don the persona of either Regina, heroine of the first title, or Dylan, a tough agent with a preference for brute force. Obviously this is an aggressive game so don’t be surprised to see a lot of blood. It’s also a game of many surprises and mini-missions. As you move from area to area, working on dino extinction all the while, you’ll come across weapon upgrades and medical aid, but you might also encounter dino-files, a kind of card collection game, arcade shooting elements or puzzle features. In fact DINO CRISIS 2 is simply packed with everything needed for great gameplay – including the fear factor when a massive slavering beast pops out of the undergrowth and screams its hunger in your face…! Scary…!
