Smugglers Run

Smugglers Run by Rockstar Games isn’t the first of its genre, but it certainly takes off-road competition a giant leap forward. The games story is loosely based upon smuggling contraband between the U.S.A. and Canada as well as the U.S.A. and Mexico. With a variety of vehicles, each with its own attributes to suit the player, as well as 3 giant levels to choose from, Smugglers Run provides hours of entertainment. Use of the left (direction) and right (speed) analog sticks provides the tight control you need to direct your vehicle over terrain you would never dream of traversing in the toughest of ATV’s. Using Rockstars own personal game engine provides an experience never before seen in even the most advanced driving simulator. Your vehicle conforms to every bump and dip, angle and bank with 100% accuracy, which at high speeds can cause even the most experienced driver to loose control. The missions consist of several different objectives, mainly focusing on beating another ‘team’ of smugglers to a specific spot on the map with your illegal cargo. Throw in cops with a level of brutality to put those of Driver to shame, and you’ve got one intense game. Unfortunately the replay value isn’t the greatest, and your lady informer can get on your nerves quickly with annoying (yet optionally shut off) phrases. Overall Rockstar did a superb job for a first release and like Goldeneye, we can’t stop playing. A definite must have launch title.
