New York Channel 7 / WABC-TV and a Beluga whale
RETURNING TO THE SURFACE, on Tuesday noon, Bill talked over the dive with one of the Aquarium's divers (above left) and did the traditional "hero pose" (above right) with Gene Ritter. Evans got a real kick out of finding his name (below) on the SuperLite's snoopy -- the blue helmet liner had been acquired by Jim Folk from commercial diver Shawn Evans, who has dived at our Willow Springs Rallies.
Live from the Beluga tank!
IN THE MORNING DARKNESS at 5:30 on Wednesday, March 3, Bill Evans and Jim Folk were in the Beluga tank for Bill's live spots during the morning news show on WABC Channel 7 New York. The cameraman was shooting through the window at the side of the tank, and the entire process worked extremely well. Jim Folk particularly enjoyed interacting with the gentle and curious whale Natasha. Following instructions from the Aquarium divers, Jim did not attempt to pet or encourage the whale's affections. Also in the tank with them was Crista, one of the whale's trainers from the Aquarium.
WHEN THE TELEVISION programming was completed and Natasha got her "15 minutes fo fame,"
she thanked Gene Ritter with a kiss (below).
