Northeast Diving Equipment Group

Mar-Vel Tent Sale 1999

Mar-Vel Diving Equipment Company
Camden, N.J, April 24, 1999

THE NORTHEAST DIVING EQUIPMENT GROUP had a display table at the 1999 Mar-Vel Tent Sale
at the Mar-Vel Diving Equipment Company in Woodlynn N.J., on April 24, 1999.
On hand for the set-up and displaying gear were NEDEG members Mark Butler, Bob Rusnak, Dave Hill, Ray Butts and Jim Boyd.
Also on hand at the sale were Bill Crandall (far right) and Bill Eubanks (who was working in Ray Mathieson's display).

TOM MADDOX of MAR-VEL donated to the group a valuable DESCO commemorative MkV Diver's Knife,
Number 135 out of the limited run of 200, to raffle off as a fund-raiser toward
our badly needed compressor. Tom even included a sheet of raffle tickets, which we sold for $1.00 each.
Ray Butts holds the knife for its "official photo."

RAY BUTTS VOLUNTEERED to dry dress in his MkV as a demnstration for the crowd.
Dave Hill (left) and Mark Butler (right) worked as tenders.

IAN MADDOX, the son of Mar-Vel's Tom Maddox, drew the winner of the DESCO Dive Knife raffle
from the faceplate of his dad's MkV helmet, which held the raffle tickets.
The winner of the dive knife was Ray Matheison, a commercial diver and equipment supplier and well known helmet collector
from Maryland. Ray (far right) graciously accepted the knife from Ian Maddox.
"That's the first raffle I've ever won!" exclaimed Ray, almost unbelievingly.
Tom Maddox was pleased with the winner, because, "...I'm glad to see it went to someone who can truly appreciate its value."
The Northeast Diving Equipment Group raised nearly $250 from the raffle toward a new air compressor,
which we should have on hand for the D-Day Working Equipment Rally.
