I don't have a lot to say about this show. My enjoyment of it suffered greatly from it's time-slot in our viewing schedule - I had less than an hour before seen one of my top five favourite actors on stage, and before that had seen one of my favourite plays. This was our third show that day, and we only ended up there because there was nothing else avaiable on TKTS, and it started at 8:15. Since we arrived at the TKTS booth at 7:50, this sounded like a good thing. :-) I have several Forbidden Broadway CDs and really enjoy their satire, but there were other shows much higher on my list that I would much rather have seen. However, when you go on a theatre trip with no tickets bought more than an hour ahead of time, things don't always work out the way you plan. :-)

The show itself was fine. Very funny, but nearly all of the material was drawn from their previous shows and CDs, so there were hardly any bits that I hadn't heard before. And it just wasn't on the same level, production-wise, as the other shows I had seen that weekend. I felt like I was in a high school gymnasium, even down to the small auditorium and cramped seating. And I was paying the same price for this show as I had for the other shows I had seen that day. It just really suffered in comparison, and I was thinking about the other shows I had wanted to see. And reliving my Terrence Mann experience of an hour ago over and over. :-) (And stressing about the fact that we were planning to go back and harrass him at the stage door after the late show of RHS, and I was worried we would miss him or something would happen to disrupt our plan.) So my whole attention wasn't on this performance.

The actors were all excellent - great mimics, and wonderful voices. I was particularly taken with Joel Carlton, who was a real cutie with a powerful voice. But I wouldn't hurry back to this show, and I'm willing to admit that's as much my fault as the show's. It was just bad timing and overload on my senses, unfortunately combined with the "small" nature of the show immmediately after seeing several "big" productions, and the fact that there was hardly any new material in it. Not a highlight of my theatre going experiences, I'm afraid.

Go back.
