If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have seen this show two nights in a row, especially when I had already seen it on my last trip to NYC. It's not that I didn't enjoy it immensely, but there were so many other shows playing I wanted to see, and now I regret taking up two of my very scarce evenings in the city with the same show. However, it seemed the thing to do at the time, since I knew it was closing, I was still in the depths of my Rex Smith obsession, and it was where Stacy (who I was staying with) was hanging out every night, since she was living in New York City and had become friends with other fans and some of the cast.

However, not being able to turn back time (wouldn't that be a cool superpower to have?), I'll just say that the show was just as enjoyable on repeat viewings as it was the first time. The cast was still very strong, Douglas Sills was a powerhouse every night (seeing that performer in that role ranks very high on my list of all time greats - he was amazing and it was a perfect blend of actor and role), and Rex and Rachel were terrific as well, along with the incredibly talented ensemble. I paid a little more attention this time to Doug Storm, who through Stacy I had met at the stage door a few times, and he never failed to crack me up. I love random chorus people. :-)

Seeing the show two nights in a row also provided a fun opportunity to pick up on little changes from night to night, which is always something that I find fascinating about live theatre. I didn't get to experience one of Douglas' famous ad-libs, though, so I was disappointed about that. :-) A terrific show, that I think never got a fair chance from the critics and the snobbish "theatre elite." You can see pictures of my stage door experiences from this show here.

Just as a side-note: one of the nights I was at the show, Julie Andrews was also there, which I found as exciting as anything else I did in NYC on any of my trips there. She's such a goddess.
