Bolivia

[...continued from Peru]

...We then drove round the lake and into Bolivia and La Pazspent a few days in La Paz. Crossing the flat Altiplano you'd never guess there was a city of half a million people looming ahead. All you can see is the vast expanse of the high plains with the magnificent Cordilliera Real, South America's second-highest mountain range, in the distance. However, after you quickly pass through the suburb of El Alto, there in front of you is a huge canyon, with La Paz sprawled out to fill its every nook and cranny.

Witch's Market, La Paz

La Paz is quite an interesting city - very modern, surprisingly affluent and boasting two English pubs, and a quaint sports museum. But slap-bang in the middle of the CBD they have a witch's market where you can buy all sorts of lucky charms... including condor wings for safe travel and llama's feotuses for fertiity! Talking of llamas, I had a delicious llama kebab on my last night in La Paz!
