The Long Story

By Bekka Mouri

(Gina and Bekka talk.  The baby gets a name ^_^ and Hager gets a nasty little surprise.)

Hager stalked down the hallway.  Sarah had insisted everyone get a flu shot and she meant EVERYONE.  Zarkon had resisted so it was up to Hager to get his shot and give it to him herself.  She just hoped she got to the medwing before the small supply of shots formulated for Drules were gone.

After obtaining the shot, there would always be the joy of GIVING the shot to him.  Since none of the nurses wanted to go anywhere near him, Hager would be alone in the endeavor.  She went to grumbled something about how grown men can be such babies when she heard the sounds of people talking.

“ Should he be kicking this early? “ A woman said, her voice making Hager’s eyes narrow.

“ I don’t know.  How far along do you think you are? “ The Lady Bitch responded.

“ Uh, how long has it been since that happened?  I want to say at least four months, “ The other woman, that wretched barmaid, replied.

~No!  How did she get back here?  I thought she had died! ~ Hager picked up her pace a bit and rounded the corner, finding Gina and Keith talking to the wench who had locked Zarkon’s twin Mr.Happys in The Club.  She narrowed her eyes again and hissed: “ You! “

The barmaid looked at Hager.  “ Aren’t you Tamy’s aunt? “

“ Never mind that!  How come you are still alive, you little bitch? “ Hager snarled, advancing on Bekka.

“ Hager!  No! “ Gina tried to stop her but Keith and Aly held her back.

Bekka backed up until she was against the wall, “ What did I do?  Do I even know you? “

“ YOU hurt my Zarky! “ Hager raised her hand as it started to glow.  “ This time, you will STAY dead! “

Bekka shut her eyes, unsure of how to defend herself but they flew open as she felt an intense tingling in her belly.  It was almost like her baby was kicking at hyper-speed.  The tingling gave way to a warming sensation as her stomach started to glow.  She screamed, half in shock and half in pain, as a bright purple bolt of energy shot through the fabric of the dress and right at Hager.

Hager hit the opposite wall with a hard thud and slid to the floor in a heap, the glow in her hand fizzling out to nothing.  Bekka placed her hand on her belly, tears of pain rolling down her cheeks as she slid to the floor.  “ Damn it, that hurt, “ She choked out.

Gina wiggled from Keith and Aly’s grip, darting to Bekka.  “ Are you okay? “

Bekka looked down at her stomach and gasped.  Blood stained her hand and the front of her dress.  “ No.  I don’t think so. “

The commotion had attracted several of the nurses and they ran to Bekka when they saw the blood.  Bekka’s eyes fluttered and she passed out.  “ Quick! “ One of them said, “ Someone go get Sarah! “

Sarah looked at Bekka’s bandaged bellybutton and shook her head.  “ I have never seen an injury like this in all of my life.  Could someone explain what happened to cause this? “

“ I don’t know, “ Gina shook her head and looked at Bekka as she lay unconscious.  “ Hager came up and tried to attack her and this purple bolt of energy shot from Bekka and knocked the old witch into the wall. “

Sarah flapped her wings once, “ I thought she wasn’t a magic user. “

Aly, who had been standing in the corner of the room, stepped forward.  She looked at the floor and said, “ No, but she is now. “

“ What do you mean? “ Sarah looked at her.  For a moment, she wondered why Aly’s face looked a bit puffy.  ~Oh no, did she get a bad shot too? ~

Aly looked up, “ She’s carrying Hermaeus Mora’s baby.  When Daedra blood and human blood mix, it causes changes to the human.  It makes them a Daedra by blood because their blood is so powerful it destroys the human blood. “

Aly and Gina jumped when Sarah’s tail fell to the floor.  “ What?  She’s pregnant?  She had the last shot of the good batch!  How could this be? “

Aly shook her head, “ It doesn’t matter.  Daedras are immune to all types and forms of drugs.  You could have given Bekka all of the shots on Doom and it still wouldn’t have made a difference.  Hermaeus’ semen would have just gone right through it. “

“ What does this mean for her though? “ Gina looked at Aly, her eyes wide.

“ She’ll probably survive, “ Aly looked at Bekka quickly, “ If she can overcome the main side effect of the Daedra blood destroying the regular blood. “

“ What’s that? “ Sarah looked at Aly.

Aly looked at the floor before looking at Gina and Sarah.  “ Madness.  The initial shock of all that power running through a normal person has been know to cause severe madness.  Only those with the strongest of wills overcome it. “

Bekka looked around, again finding herself in the dream-like world her son’s spirit dwelled in.  “ Boy!  What’s wrong now? “

“ I just didn’t want you to hurt any more, mother.  The nice doctor fixed the injury I gave you, “ He appeared out of the mist and stopped in front of her.  He kicked the ground, “ I thought you were in danger. “

Bekka sighed, “ I was and thank you. “

“ I’m going to keep you here for a little while.  I have a question I want to ask you, “ He kicked the ground a little more.

            “ Like what? “

The boy looked into Bekka’s eyes, “ Why don’t I have a name yet? “

Bekka was speechless.  In all of the excitement, she hadn’t even thought about a name for the baby.  It was pretty obvious what he was going to be so she couldn’t use the excuse of not knowing his gender.  She found her voice finally, asking: “ Don’t you have a name here? “

“ No, mother, “ He shook his head.  “ I can help you choose though. “

Bekka struggled to think.  She didn’t know anything about naming children.  She had named all of her rats but those were pets and she had named them after cartoon characters.  She wasn’t going to name her son after a cartoon character.

The boy squatted down, “ Mother?  Can I ask you something else? “

            “ Sure, “ Bekka nodded.

“ Did you know a man named Enova? “

Bekka caught her breath.  “ Yes, why? “

“ He wanted me to say hello to you.  You see, he comes though here every once in awhile and he stopped when he saw me.  He said he knew my mother and wanted to send his regards. “

“ Do you think you will see him again? “ Bekka whispered.

The boy shook his head, “ I don’t know. “

Bekka smiled, “ Would you like that name? “

The boy thought for a long moment, muttering to himself.  “ Enova Mora.  Enova Mora… sounds okay. “

“ Sounds good to me but are you sure you want to keep your father’s name? “ Bekka hoped he would say no.

The boy muttered to himself again.  “ Enova Har’grovi… Enova Har’grovi. “

Bekka bit her lip.  She felt it was a little too early to even consider the child’s surname being that.  “ How do you like how it sounds with my last name? “

The boy looked at her, “ Enova Rodgers?  Mother, those names really don’t go well together. “

Bekka sighed, “ Okay.  You win.  What do YOU like best? “

Enova walked in a small circle, muttering the names over and over.  He sighed and looked at Bekka.  “ Mother? “

            “ What, Enova? “

            “ Can I have a middle name? “

Bekka rolled her eyes, “ Sure.  Let me think… “

“ How about Oriel? “ Enova said.

“ What’s that mean? “ Bekka tilted her head.

Enova smiled, “ Another boy has that name here and he said it means Child Of Destiny. “

Bekka shivered at the word.  Hermaeus often went on and on about destiny.  He told Bekka not to do certain things until the time was right or it would mess up her destiny.  She realized Enova was what the name meant.

            “ Well, mother? “

Bekka nodded, “ Okay.  I hereby dub you Enova Oriel… “

            Enova smiled, “ Mora! “

            ~Wonderful, ~ Bekka grimace inwardly.

“ I think she’s waking up, “ Gina stood to her feet slowly as she noticed Bekka’s eyes flutter and open.  “ Bekka, how do you feel? “

Bekka blinked, “ Like I was slammed into a wall by a four month old. “

Aly grabbed her hand, “ We’ll have to talk later, Bekka.  I need to let you know some things. “

“ Why can’t you tell me now? “ Bekka whispered.

“ You need to sleep, “ Sarah came over next.  “ And I need to run some tests to see if your baby is okay.  Aly told me Daedras are immune to drugs but I just want to double check. “

“ Please? “ Bekka looked at Sarah.  “ If anything, it will stop my worrying about him being hurt by the stuff I took before I knew I was pregnant. “

Sarah smiled, “ Of course, dear.  And Aly, I want to talk to you in private in a few minutes.  There are some things we need to… discuss. “

Aly bit her lip.  She knew she wouldn’t be able to keep her condition a secret too long….
