The Blood Conversion
By Bekka Mouri
(Bekka thinks about the changes going on in her body.)
Bekka twirled a lock of Lotor’s hair around her finger as he slept. He had lived up to his reputation and Bekka was more than satisfied. She was drifting between the world of the awake and the world of the sleeping herself as her mind began to wander. She wondered about the changes going on in her body that Aly and Sarah were talking about in hushed whispers.
~ It’s my body, ~ She thought, cuddling a little closer to Lotor. ~Why won’t they tell me anything? ~
She could already feel some changes happening; her flesh was more responsive to touches and she seemed to be more aware of things than she had ever been. Each day, she noticed the severity of her panic attacks dwindling. If that trend continued, she would not have to worry about medicine at all. She had gotten used to the way her blood felt as it ran through her veins; it was like she had pure electricity in her body, humming silently as Enova grew.
At first, it felt like she had something crawling through her. She didn’t have time to think about it before because there were other things on her mind. The sensation had started shortly before Mehrunes kidnapped her. In all of the panic and such of that ordeal, she pushed the sensation to the back of her mind, as it became a normal feeling.
The aphrodisiac had made her aware of it only briefly before the agitation it caused her brought other more pressing matters to mind. She still could not remember what happened while she was under its effects but it didn’t matter now. Mehrunes was dead and he could hold anything she did at that time against her. That ordeal was now ancient history as far as she was concerned and she was much more concerned about the present.
She had started to worry about Enova’s growth. When Sarah weighed her, she had only gained five pounds, all of it seeming to be in her chest. Sarah had said Bekka should have gained a little more than that at the point she was in her pregnancy but the baby seemed to be healthy on the sonogram. She had reasoned that Daedra babies were probably small but wanted to keep a close eye on Bekka since the child was half human.
Another thing that made her wonder was the fact she could never hear total silence. There was always the dull buzz of talking but she couldn’t quite make out words. Even now, she could hear a dull buzz in the silence of her room. She moved her head a little close to Lotor’s and the buzz got louder. She pulled away, realizing what the buzz was: the thoughts of others.
She remembered Namira saying she could hear Mehrunes’ thoughts after Hermaeus touched her. She would have to be careful; it would be wrong to read people’s minds. She had always been able to communicate with animals mentally and wondered if she would still be able to do that. She wanted to thank Prowler, Noble and Sudan for their help in capturing Mehrunes.
Enova kicked a little and Bekka put a hand to him. ~Little one, what are you doing to me? ~ She thought, drifting off to sleep.
