The Indian Space program, since its inception, has been guided by a vision which laid emphasis on the application of space
technology for finding solutions to the problems of the common man and society. Self reliance in space technology has been the
important motto for our policy makers. In 1969, the
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)
was created by
Dr. Vikram A Sarabhai.
Since then ISRO has been remarkably successful with the active
participation of several great scientists and administrators.
ISRO is the primary agency for all space related activities in India. The services in communication, broadcasting, and meteorology are
now been provided by satellites designed and built in India. India has pursued a reasonable, well-balanced program, nicely adapted to
the nations development needs. While ISRO has put together a step by step
launch vehicle building program, they have concentrated on the two most important areas for a large country such as India, telecommunications
and remote sensing.
