Aeva Demeter

Full Name: *Lifts her eyes to your face and answers in an almost frightened voice* Aeva Demeter. *Adds softly* Most just call me Demeter. *Doesn't say anymore, just keeps her eyes firmly placed into yours. They look scared, but she doesn't turn them away.*
Age: *is silent for a moment before answering* Sixteen. *She falls silent again. When you don't ask the next question, she reluctantly adds* I don't know when I'll be seventeen. All I know is that it's been eleven years since-- *she stops abruptly and her eyes fall to her hands. She doesn't look back up, nor does she speak again.*
Appearance: *Her exotic eyes meet yours again. She refuses to narrate, but everything is revealed when you look her over.* *You notice that her eyes give off an alarmed appearance. Their color is an almost translucent, pale green-yellow. They are like a cat's, wide and fearful from experience.* *Her hair is cropped short, only a mere three or four inches long. The ends are shaggily cut, and stick out around her head to make a mane of spiky hair. Even though it is terribly unfashionable for the day, she doesn't wear a hat to try to hide her bizarre hairstyle. You get the feeling that she can't afford a hat to cover it. Her hair has many different colors, making her look like a mutt. The most prominent hues are of a dark reddish-brown.* * Her skin itself is a soft, pale tone that contrasts deeply with her hair color. There are no visible birthmarks or scars that you can see, but she has a garden of cuts and scratches along her back from years ago.* *Her height is a little over 5'4", but her poise makes her appear smaller. She is more on the thin side, but not erratically meager.* *Her posture and actions are also catlike--her hands are always bent and her stance always alert.* *Her over-all appearance reminds you heavily of a feline.*
Background: I don't have one. *After a moment of silence between the two of you, she finally decides to answer.* I'm not from New York, which you can probably pick up by my accent. I'm from Reno, if you absolutely must know. But I don't even sound like I come from there, do I? *She offers a weak attempt of a smile.* I roam around a lot, it's what I do. *She doesn't specify where she's roamed, but it has a been many a dangerous place, which accounts for her alarmed and jaded outlook on life.* I've had a few scrapes in my time *smiles softly to herself, acknowledging her little joke. She doesn't expect you to understand the humor, nor does she volunteer an explanation.* I only came to New York a couple months ago--I'm surprised I've stayed this long. *Catches you about to ask something* I just thought I'd stay put for a while. I'm tired of being a stray cat. *Goes back into her taciturn mode, motionless and quiet.*
Relationships: *Shakes her head gradually, as if trying to decide how to answer the question.* No. No relationships. None at all. *She stared into your eyes again. She sighs, and admits* I used to have a family, of course. Everyone has to start out with a family. I don't know what happened to mine besides my older brother. *She responds coldly* Him, I know. *Her eyes narrow slightly* I know what happened to him all too well. I was there when they took him; I was there when they killed him; I was there when they dug his grave. *She fumes silently, waiting for her anger to subside before she moves on.* *She adds weakly* Him, I know.
Other notes: *Shakes her head* Nothing else, besides I won't be in anybody's way. I always keep to myself. *muses aloud* You probably know more about me than anyone else I've run into over the years. *Demeter's personality is a hard one to figure out; she usually completely unnoticeable and tries to keep it that way, but she has her moments of friendliness if the other person can coax it out of her. Grief and experience have trapped her in a corner of secrecy and fear.* *The two main events that shaped her character are the trial and death of her brother and a run-in with an infamous criminal.*
